cork bark

I recently purchased a LOT of cork. 5 quite large pieces of it. I recently discovered some of it has an ants nest inside of it. Although it's very cool to have your own ant nest, I'm afraid they need to go... So I was wondering what is the best way to kill off any unwanted pests living inside...

So I found a place that sells cork bark for a good price and I ordered a whole bunch. It ended up being a lot more than I needed for my background and my to put in vivarium. Is there a special way I need to store the extra for future use? Would love to hear some feedback.
