Default Tropical Moss Mix Available

This moss mix is produced by Dusk Tropic, the makers of EpiWeb. Tropical moss mix consist of 60% Sphagnum moss and 40% tropic mosses (south american) that is ground together. The Sphagnum moss acts as a medium for the other mosses to establish in. It also hold everything together as it becomes a kind of a felt when mixed fine. Also added are seeds of Peperomias, Gesneriads, Begonias and several fern spores to the mix. Its also common that other seeds and spores awake from the tropic moss in the mix. The dried moss mix should be mixed with water and spread onto the growing surface. Mosses must be kept moist, particularly when first germinating.

50g $12.99
300g $72.99

I'm assuming it would work on a GS/silicone background.

I second the above questions
I'm starting two new tanks and this seems like a good idea

How much does the 50 cover and I'm assuming it works on gs?

Hey guys

I already ordered some. I believe on another post they said after mixed with water it was enough for .5 square meters...i figured this is about enough to cover an area of 30"x30" more or less Im sure I can make it stretch if i don't have enough. And it should be applicable to almost any surface as you just mix with water and apply it. anyway hope that helps!

Thanks for the info chris =)
Another question (I'm always full of em haha) how long does it usually take for it to start showing growth? The photos have a 3 month difference but also show substantial growth, I guess I'm asking how long id hav to wait before I kno its growing (the curse of being a teenager, impatience)
Haha, thanks

Last time I checked November was two months before January. Just kidding of course. Seriously though it is two months of growth unless I am missing something. Anyway this stuff looks promising and I would also be interested in knowing how much the 50 size would cover. If you look at the first pic it looks like it is spread pretty thin.

Hey guys....

There is alot we still don't know about this product including the amount needed to cover an area, which I believe will be dependent on what your substrate is.

There is an ongoing post about the moss and Epiweb in the Parts and Construction forum here that addresses many of these questions so we may want to try and consolidate this conversation there:

http://www.dendroboard.com/forum/par...ned-order.html

Thanks!

nother question: does it spread itself after it becomes established? Could you seed areas, and then the rest would fill in over time?

curious minds and all that...

It is intended to be spread across although you would of course get grow in. I am just about out of stock on this and will be looking to order more soon. Please do post your experiences.

I've got one on the way- I was a little surprised it didn't arrive today actually. I'll let you know how it works. I need it to cover up this piece of grapevine that has a neat shape, but is a little on the moldy, nasty side .

Main trouble would be getting it to stick. I don't see why once you siliconed in your substrate of choice you couldn't use the mix over it however. All of my tanks are foam with silicone and coco-peat.

Onto EpiWeb yes...different substrates my require different strategies. EpiWeb can be a little like velcro and holds the moss mix well. On other substrates such as wood or coco-peat I would probably just set it up like any other moss you might try to grow.

hmmmmm, well I noticed when the foam is cut it has tons of little air pockets..... I was thinking of doing a concrete binder fiber mix, I wonder if I could mix the moss stuff in it as well and get it to grow? Or maybe this is too lofty a goal.

Flesh:

You can certainly mix with other substrates although that would undo some of the growth advantages of the EpiWeb.

Currently sold out. I have placed a large order with the manufacturer but haven't heard back from them in weeks. This is typical unfortunately and getting things here from Europe and through customs takes time. The last order was the first. Now that I know there is interest I will be ordering appropriately to avoid this out of stock situation.

Tim,

It was the live moss I got stuck with...not the mix. I sold some of it at the MARS show. I am going to take samples of what I have left and try to culture it. The rest I will dry out and sell as dry moss to lessen the hit I took.

It would be awesome to get something like this but with orchids as well. If I'm not mistaken it has pepperomia's and other plants?

With the exception of a few stowaways the mix doesn't contain plants other than the mosses. Everything else was added to the setup. This substrate and setup were specifically designed by orchid growers for orchids so they definitely work well. I carry a line of terrarium specific orchids which would thrive on the moss/Epiweb.

Wait till you guys see what is coming next

Those are called "nano-vivs" or "grow tubes" and will be available soon. They of course don't come with moss and orchids grown in!

They are completely Epi-Web with acrylic tops (because of weight). They can be set in the acrylic trays or your choice of reservoirs.

The folks from Epiweb are going to come over from Sweden to help me set up "shop" here in the states. My hope is this will allow a wider range of products and hopefully lower pricing on some of the materials. We will see.

I am getting the first "grow tube" shipped in a few weeks to take a look.

Everything coming from Europe takes some time so we just have to be patient....but they are coming!
