Default Retf viv or paper towels?

Looking into getting a couple retfs and I have read that you can just use paper towels instead of substrate. It helps with them not swallowing things they can't pass. But I enjoy making vivariums and the benefits of having isopods in the tank. So ultimately I want what is best and safest for these frogs. Suggestions?

IMO people use substrate impaction as a lazy excuse for not supplying their inhabitants with a proper diet and environment to keep them healthy. Sure it is great for trying to aid an animal back to full health or for quarantine, but other then that the real thing is always better.

Ok awesome! I much rather have a viv than paper towels. So I want plants with large leaf surfaces and can hold their weight. Also I read feeding dishes are best. Anything else?

I have used and continue to use.. large chunks of fir tree bark (used in orchid baskets) wet as a substrate and load the tank with springtails for the crickets that die off in the tank or frog poop. This is what I keep my adults in currently. My juveniles/newly morphed froglets I use the paper towel method, so I can keep an eye on how they are 'pooping' and easier taking for doing random fecals. If the adults pick up a piece of fir bark instead of a cricket or with a cricket they will just use their forelimbs to remove it.
