Default Microgramma vacciniifolia not growing leaves

Hi everyone,
I have a Microgramma vacciniifolia plant in my vivarium since August that's not growing any leaves. The vine part has grown by about 7-8" but none of the new growth has leaves. Is this normal?

Are vines on moist nutrient-rich substrate? IME they will just keep running around and pop out leaves when they have enough moisture. They also have pretty good desiccation tolerance.

The vine portion is growing along the hardscape, not into the soil. The base/roots are in the substrate (which is growing all the other plants at rates I wasn't expecting)

Ya, so you can try to water the vine that's on the hardscape more, or push some sphagnum around it, or just move it to something more moist and nutrient-rich.

A lot of these micro ferns seem to put out a long runner like that, then once it's happy, a series of leaves will pop out over the course of a few days. As long as it's growing, staying green, and not dropping any existing leaves, you're good!

What he said.

This is exactly my experience - my vaccinifolia shoot long hairy runners all over the place. When a runner gets happy, boom, leaves pop out all along it. This may not happen for weeks or even months - and then it does. I've also got stretches of long hairy runner that seem like they won't ever get leaves. But there are places further along - newer growth off the same runner - that "got happy" and are covered in leaves. Consistent but not excessive water seems to make them happy. I've got a lot of wet spots, dry spots, and in-between spots all around my vivs due to spotty drip walls, gaps between mist heads, etc. The plants deal with it, winning and losing here and there, as micro-site conditions favor or disfavor them.

I really love this fern. It's super cute, not a rampaging beast, and pretty damn tough actually.

cheers

Just chiming in to say my experience is exactly the same as everyone else with this fern. The only trick is to start your initial cutting in a good spot.

this is my goal with every viv I put together. Microclimates = good for enclosed living spaces

Sure enough, you were collectively correct.
My microgramma has started to grow a leaf and has another couple places that look to have leaves coming soon. It found a spot it liked :-)
