Default Background replacement for Ficus spec.

Hi guys,

my wife reacts alergic to ficus species. Can anyone recommend something else for the background?

There are lots of options for backgrounds. Shinglers like Marcgravia and Rhaphidophora can eventually overlap to cover the background. If you are willing to have it pretty wet, baby tears and mosses are also options. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some good peperomias that will serve that purpose, too.

I have never heard of being allergic to such a specific taxon of plants before, especially non-flowering/pollen producing species inside a viv. That must be a bummer! Is there any guarantee that she isn't also allergic to alternative species?

There are so many it could make your head spin. To add to Encyclia's mentions, Microgramma species can be very attractive, as can Neoregelias sometimes and in some positions.

Is it possible for you to show us a photograph of the setup? We may be able to help you better if we know what you have to work with.
