Default Need help with plants for my vivarium

Hi all, so I have already made a post to begin my vivarium build journal. But I figured it would be best to create a separate thread for the plants I would like to add to it. Basically, when it comes to plants I haven't a clue about them except maybe some really basic things. What I'm looking for is mostly plants that can withstand abuse from a 15cm crested gecko throwing himself around the vivarium. All I ask is for names of plant species (photos would be great if you can be bothered, I don't mind searching the names in Google images though!) that would work well in this sort of environment, anything broad leafed and strong would be great, as well as those that are good background cover (isn't fiscus one?)as well as general cover for the gecko (ferns maybe?) I also dont mind if they are fast growing, I'll just trim it, or the gecko will!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Ruairidh

Most Philodendrons are sturdy and can take some abuse. As can a lot of the vining aroids we use in vivariums.
Plants with coriaceous (leathery) leaves in general tends to be hardy.

It might be easier to look what's available to you rather than trying to find plants we suggest here.
I'd start with checking out the online vendors and local nurseries for plants you like. If a plant looks sturdy chances are it is.

@ruairidh,

I second Sammie's leathery-leaved plant suggestions. Along the lines of sturdy plants, I'd say you could consider:

Sansevieria sp 'mother-in-laws tongue'
Cordyline & Dracaena sp - dwarf forms
Bromeliads!

All of these plants can handle warm and lower humidity conditions (with regular watering of course). All need bright light for sturdiest (and prettiest) growth.

Hello,

Here at Josh's Frogs we actually have a category devoted to plants that are recommended for use in a Crested Gecko Vivarium that you can find HERE on our website.

I hope this helps, but if you have any other questions, just let us know!
