Default Orchids down the street. Uh oh.

I just moved into a new place and I discovered that this place Fantasy Orchids is literally a five minute walk away. This could be dangerous, they have tooooooons of orchids and so many different varieties. I told them I'm probably going to just come in and hang out, read a book, and relax sometimes. I also signed up for a free orchid class this week.

Between this discovery and the fact that my phalaenopsis is growing two flower spikes, I'm on orchid cloud nine.

Nice, Junaid! I have still never been there. I need to go. Let me know what they tell you. From what I have heard, the real advantage for the houseplant orchids they have is that their greenhouses are local and they keep the conditions a bit closer to what we have in our houses. That gives us a little better chance, anyway :-) I am very interested to hear if they keep anything appropriate for our vivs.

Thanks for the reminder!

Mark

I remember reading a thread about good orchid species for vivs. I'm going to look it up and take some notes, then after my orchid class on the 30th I'm going to see how many of them I can find in there. The gals I was chatting with today said they've had a few froggers come in and purchase stuff. Next time you're putting together a viv or looking for orchids I'd be happy to cruise over and see if they've got any nice specimens of whatever you might be looking for. It's definitely worth dropping in and checking out. They have stuff ranging from tiny little things to huge ones that wouldn't fit in any but the most massive of vivs. Apparently they also take non blooming orchids as trade ins for a percentage off of flowering ones.

Lucky you! I'd be in real trouble if there was an orchid vendor within five minutes' walk from me. If anything, it sounds like you'll have some things in common with your new neighbors.

Yeah, it's going to be hard to resist the temptation. They seemed pretty cool with me hanging out though, so that's good. But if there's a good sale.....
