Default Terribilis calling troubles

Not sure if there is a problem or not, but I have a young Orange Terribilis that is around 18 mos old that does call, but seems to have trouble getting a good call going. He starts and it's like his tongue sticks to the inside of his mouth and he has a rough time getting past that point. Albeit young, he and the female have been trying to reproduce already. Non of the eggs have been viable but in time they should work that out. I'm more interested in if others have seen this sticky tongue calling issue.

Maybe he's just so excited that he's stuttering.

I haven't personally owned a terriblis (yet), but I am actually experiencing the same issue with one of my imis. I have two of them, both male, and one of them has a beautiful, trilling call while the other does not. And it's kind of hard to describe how it sounds, but he pretty much lets out a series of intermittent brief and sharp chrips rather than a long, trilling call. I've had him for two years and he still can't seem to get it right, so my guess is that the call of your terriblis will likely remain the same as well, but I can't say for sure because this is the only time I've ever had a dart with trouble calling properly.

I have five male Terribs. Each call is a different and some took a while before getting the hang of it. The female sounds like a chicken squawking.

Give your little guy some time and practice.

Agree with the comment above. I have a 2.3 group, they are around 3 1/2 years old. When the males first started calling, it took them some time to get it right, but I'm sure they are perfectly fine. They are still pretty young. Give them some time.
