Nice stuff though ring flashes are over rated. From what I have read most are under powered and your best bet is a dual flash setup.

Thanks for that, Kyle. I need to keep researching and reading reviews.

I use a Canon 40D and while I currently only one the 28-135mm kit lens, I have access to borrow a ton of other lenses. I've used a the 65mm 1-5 macro with a ring light and got some great results, but the slave-flash was way more useful and consistent. Ring lights are underpowered, but if you're getting within 12-18 inches they'll more than get the job done. If you're trying to get a good picture from 3' the slave flash will serve you better.

Awesome photos Lee. Does it annoy you when you get a 'perfect' shot and you find that your frogs had dirt/coco fiber/moss on them? It drives me nuts, even though it really doesn't detract from the picture, I'm just anal about it.

Jason - I went ahead and merged your post with Lee's. I was going to start an "equipment" thread - but you guys beat me to it.

My rig.

Nikon D80
Nikkor 105mm f2.8D Macro
Sigma 180mm f3.5 HSM Macro
Nikon 70-300mm VR f4.5-5.6G DX
Nikon AF 50mm f1.8D
Nikon 18-70mm f3.5-4.5G DX
R1C1 Flash unit (with an extra SB-200)

Sadly - I don't have any pics uploaded that I have taken with my D80 - but these are all with my D70S.

Great shots everyone! Love your work JP.

I have a Nikon D40 with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II lens. Simple camera to use but I love it.

You went to the Brewery Art show a few weeks back eh? I was there too, on Sunday. Too many people to get many decent shots, I was fairly pissed. Previous shows were nowhere near as crowded from what I understand.

Ha, yeah. I was there Saturday. Not too much great art, but I enjoyed the space very much, it is a neat part of LA. There was some peices there I really liked though, but mostly the old factories and brewery.

Nice shots man. I spent most of Saturday drinking too much on the West Side.

I'll see if I can dig up the set I shot at the Brewery.

There really was nothing were processing in my Brewery set. Which in hindsight is likely why I didn't do anything with it in the first place. This was salvageable but not really very interesting as far as I am concerned.

Me too...

I have always wanted to take a night shot of the Budweiser plant, but I have not found a vantage point to get high enough.
