Default Large paludarium requirements?

I have a 153gal tank here thats currently unused and was considering turning it into a paludarium but was wondering first are there any major differences between building a smaller say 50gal to something of this size construction wise? Does the size mean things need to be done differently?

The biggest challenges is ensuring a powerful enough filtration system as well as powerful enough light system. However this also depends on the actuall dimensions of the tank, the amount of water used in the water area and the intended inhabitants of the tank.

i dont think lighting will be a huge issue, it will be a fairly scarcely planted tank above water and i guess i could choose water plants that dont need heaps of light. It will be used to houce some kind of semi aquatic or arboreal snake. The dimensions are 1200mmWx700mmHx700mmD if that helps

How big of a water areas in terms of gallon? Most snakes tend to produce quite a bit of waste so a good filtration system will be key. Also many semiaquatic snakes don't like a lot of water flow which will severely limit your filter options if you choose to go that route. In term of lighting I would recommend a mercury vapor say around 160 watts supplemented by a 4' strip light. The mercury will help display the snakes color plus help it dry out to avoid skin parasites and fungus.

approx 43gallons but thats not taking into account and substrate or structures in the water but always best to overcalculate. I could use a large canister filter and then use a spraybar aiming at plants to keep the water movement down

Thats one option or you can do a couple of large sponge filters. It will depend on what you intend as the final occupants.

I personally would use a external aquarium filter Theres a new fluval one I think that works really well and can sustane the amount of water and whatever you decide to keep in it. Or I would sugest multiple smaller more powerfull filters

If the tank is not already drilled for a sump I would definitly recommend a large canister filter with a spray bar. I cant comment on the lighting as far as the animal goes but would definitly say t5ho at a minimum if you want any kind of underwater plants.
