Default 24x18x24 Hygrolon Build

Going to do a very short, simple write-up about my most recent build.

Find a suitable tank. Make sure it's sized appropriately for your selected species. Bigger is always better

Laying down silicone and eggcrate, for Great Stuff foam to stick to. It adheres much better than straight glass.

I ended up changing plans somewhat, but wasn't a huge deal. I'm putting the viv in a right corner closet, so I wanted to leave the left wall open to viewing. Slowly ripped out the eggcrate and silicone, then used a razor blade to clean up anything left over

If I need to drain the false bottom, I can use this pipe with a shop-vac to remove water. Most people cut slits for the water to come through, then silicone the bottom of the PVC to the bottom glass. I just cut slits into the bottom of the PVC tube, cut out a couple of pieces of eggcrate, then used a heat gun to bend the eggcrate around the PVC so dirt would be less likely to fall through. I then placed a bead of silicone around the tube and screen to block dirt (not pictured)

I have applied Great Stuff, then misted it with water to cure quicker. Use sharp razor blades to cut the shiny, bubbly looking layer off the top of the foam. Silicone will NOT stick well to the shiny foam. Applied silicone all around the border inside, then back and forth up the middle. Layed down the Hygrolon and stretched it into the corners and edges, then smooshed down the middle making sure it laid properly

Hardscape layout. May add some cork tubes or something on the ground, but besides plants, I think it's done
