Default Sherman vent materials questions

I am starting construction of two different 4 ft enclosures and I would like them to both be front opening with Sherman style vents. Nothing huge- one is 48x12x18 the other 48x12x16.

I have made 3 ft vents with success but have not tried 4 ft vents. I haven't had much luck cutting thin strips of glass over 36 in long with 3/16 or 1/4 in thick glass so my first question is: Do you think I can get by making my vents out of 1/8th inch glass? Is cutting 4 ft by 1 in strips feasible? (I'm decent at cutting glass at this point)

Second, I find the cutting of the spacers to be the most labor intensive and frustratingly boring part of the process. Does anyone use any other materials for the vent spacers? Something I can cut with a chop saw/miter saw etc?
