Default FF and Humidity proofing exo-terra 18x18x18

Hi Everybody.

First time post and I was wondering if anybody could help me.

I have an 18x18x18 Exoterra and was looking to FF proof it and Humidity proof it. I was wondering if there were any guides on this site I could use.

I have tried the search but I cannot open any of the links ( I don't know if this is due to my old school windows 95 PC or what but they just won't work).

Can anybody help me out as I'll be looking to do this over the next day or two.

Thanks,

Jay.

the search doesnt work for me either, what you have to do is right click on the thread title/post in the search result screen to have it open in a new window or tab. Then in the address bar, delete everything after the "www.blablablah.html" That works for me.

The top is easy to fix, just have a piece of glass (or thick acrylic) cut to fit. The front vent/doors will need to be altered. Theres a variety of ways to do this, from what I've seen is people use silicone to narrow the gaps. I havent done it myself, but I bet there are better posts out there that explain it in detail. I also remember seeing pictures as well.

*Get some plexi, like 1/8" or bigger, and have it cut to fit the two openings in the top. To get the exact size cut some cardboard to fit "inside" the opening. that's your template. Drill some small holes if you like.
*For the doors I picked up some super thin rubber weatherstripping and ran it up the sides of the tank where the doors meet it.
*I've heard of people putting screen inside the front vents, but I just electrical taped over them, it's black so it matches and blends in. Good luck.

Hello Jay,

the shops (www also ) here (NL) sell small strips of metal gauze especially to FFproof your tanks.
(use aquariumkit to stick it into place on the inside of the tank/ or the top)
To 'fix' the small spaces between doors they offer ultra small strips (almost threads)of "siliconetape".

I dont think I am allowed to post the names of the shops here. (Or am I?)

I'm also in the beginstages of setting up my first paludarium, so no personal experience (yet).

I just had glass cut at Lowes to fit on top. Two seperate pieces for the Exo Terra. We siliconed the glass on top & covered the vent in the front with electrical tape on the inside so you cant see it. We haven't done anything to the doors & dont really have many escapees & the humidity is great! We do keep a cup of vinegar outside our tanks & the FF are drawn to it, then drown in there. You can use beer too with a drip of dish soap. Heres a pic of our set up. We have 1 Exo Terra & 2 of the Zoo Meds. We make sure & open the doors for a bit during the day to get some ventilation in there. We have been very happy with them.

I might actually try some of the clear car door edge guard for the front doors on my Exo.

Heres what I did you can just use a solid glass top if you don't want the ventilation .
