Default Rotted Stump Build

Put a handful of hours into this build:

Used Malaysian driftwood, black expanding foam, Hygrolon, brown silicon, and peat moss.

It looks great, looks to me like the prow of some old old sunken ship, I'd love to hear what tank it's going in

Going into a 18x18x24 Exo. Just giving the silicon a good amount of time to fully cure, and then in she goes!

It looks damn great, can't wait to see it fully planted and everything. I'm doing a malaysian driftwood/cork build in my 18x18x24, so thanks for some inspiration

Thanks for the kind words!

It is now in the viv, but have ways to go with planting etc. before I will have any pics worth posting.

Will update once things start coming together.

Do you think to animate the stump also in viv?

Haha, I have considered getting another 360 animation done once its completely grown over, but that also involves disturbing the frogs... so I may have to pass.

Going to start a build thread for the viv this is in soon. Picking up the frogs this weekend, then I will spend some time with the DSLR trying to get some decent shots of the finished product.

Little preview of the enclosure when I first put the stump in (already has broms, moss, etc. now)

loved the animation..how did you DO that? What are you planning on growing on the hygrolon--it is an interesting material...what kind of frog do you intend on enjoying this viv? It'll be fun watching how you develop it...

Shot some quick pics of where this viv is at so far - still a long way to go for plants etc. but the vanzolinii are in there and enjoying it.

Looks great man. What type of moss is that you've used?

I will post the build soon with some photos showing the process of making the stump. It isn't super detailed, but it will help get the basic idea across.

Actually, I have a moment to post it now.

Basic process was:
- Find wood that fit my idea
- Build a platform from eggcrate and zip ties
- Place the wood on the platform, drill holes in the wood and zip tie it to the platform
- Spray foam around the wood and platform
- Carve the foam to suit the look I was aiming for, and trim away unnecessary portions of the eggcrate platform
- Glue hygrolon onto the portions of the foam that I wish for plants to grow
- Cover the rest of the exposed spray foam with silicon and peat moss

Photos:

and that leads up to the very first photo I posted of the finished product.
