Default 15g aquariums

I am looking into some 15 gallon tall aquariums that I am wanting to turn into verts for a new rack project I have in mind. I want the verts to fit snuggly above my 33cube which is 20.5" in width. Two 10 gallon verts would fit perfectly above the cube but I have been looking into the 15g tall aquariums for a little more space while keeping the 10g base. The verts will hopefully one day hold pairs of imitators or vents.

Now to my question. I stopped at the closest pet store and asked if they could order me 15g standards or 15g tall aquariums. They told me sure and that they would be $31 each thats just for the aquarium. Does this price seem to high to you guys? I was expecting them to be cheaper then this but haven't been able to find much info for these tanks on the net just that they exist  Anyone have any idea what these tanks go for these days?

Kyle (our admin) uses 15g extensively. If he doesn't see this thread, pass him a PM and ask him.

I too am looking for something a little bigger than 10g. The 15g would be my choice, but yes they seem too expensive.

I can get 10g for abou 11.99 or so, so 31$ seems too much for just 5gal more... It is just that 10g are so much more used/wanted/produced than 15g.

31 seems high tho

Let me know if you find a cheaper source

I stopped at another local fish store today and asked them how much 15 gallons would cost and they said $39, that is rediculous! Here they sell 10 gallon tanks for $9.99 and 5.5 gallons are $13. I understand why this is but it just blows my mind how they price things these days.

I think petco needs to get the ball rolling on another dollar a gallon sale so we can stock up on some reasonably priced tanks!

A 15 has the same foot print as a 10 right? I'd be tempted to buy frames from glass cages, and get glass and some silicone and do it myself.

Yes defaced a 15 "tall" has the same base as a 10. The standard 15 base is a little larger at 24"x12".

I think you have a great idea there about buying the frames and building my own tanks. I will probably due just that. I was half tempted to start rethinking how I wanted to build my rack.

i dont think that price is too bad, i've been paying $29.xx for 15H tanks at place that sell 10's for $6.99, 15H have always been a bit pricey and i've never really found a killer deal on them
