Default Experience about keeping several females...

Most of my time I've kept my different Pumilio morphs strictly 1.1

now I am tempted to try more then one female in a tank with a single male Pumilio.

Want to try this with my Punta Laurent and Solarte.

I know there can be fighting between females too and that they might eat each others eggs BUT I also know from some people who keep 1.4 with big success!

so I wanted to hear about you guys who have experience with multiple females in one tank.

my Pumilios are kept in 35 gallon tanks (dry) or 39 gallon (liquid)....what the f***??

anyway... eager to read your comments

I had a Cristobal trio (1.2) without cohabitation problems. In that size viv then I'm sure you'll have no problem!

I have a trio of 1.2 Valle De Agua in a 20 gallon and they have never had a problem. I keep it heavily planted with many hides. I keep a close eye on them but I have never seen any aggression

I have 1.2 punta laurent and it's working fine. Each female is on its side of the terraria and there's no fighting nor egg eating.
Also got 1.3 esperanza and they are always all together with no fighting.
But I had 1.2 bribri and I lost one of the females who were always fighting.
She died the day when the new terraria where I wanted to put one of the females was ready.
So I think you can just try and observe if everything goes well.

the difficult part will be finding single females for Punta Laurent though

Bastis and Solarte should be easy..

Depends, I have had mixed results.

My 1.2 Basti got along but didnt breed. As soon as I pulled one female they breed like crazy and dont stop.

My 1.2 cristobals wrestle a little bit, but breed like crazy. I pull out two froglets a month like clockwork.

I had a 1.3 esperanza pair and I witness egg eating and two females eventually died.

My 1.2 popa get along just fine, I recently added a the other female and I will see how it affects breading

My 1.2 Escudo get along just fine, found eggs but no tads yet

I even have a 2.1 cemetery basti that get along well

3.1 pums? What morph? What size viv? What about male-male aggression?

Sorry "had".

3.1 Cauchero back in 2010.

Viv was 50x50x60cm

there was some rivalries but the pecking order was established quite fast and without any casualties.

it could be of course that the alpha male bred all the time and the other two were just sitting on the bench...

MIND YOU: all animals were from the same clutch.

Thank you. I was curious because from a little bit of time I'm hearing of people who keep more pums males together in the same viv in breeding group. Important, I think, it is your last remark.

I keep almost all of my pumilio and granulifera in 1.2's. One of the biggest factors I really believe is tank size. Any time I have had two females fighting (the larger types that I keep seemed to do it more), I placed them in a larger tank and it has fixed the problem. Not saying that will work 100% of the time, but with obligates I think bigger is always much better. My current trios are 2 CR Bluejeans, Black Jeans, Darklands, Drago, and Quepos. I had Cristos, Isla Popa, and a basti before. I never got any breeding out of the bastis or Cristos however. All these are kept in 40 gallon or so tanks. And I like to give them about 100 or so rearing sites with a lot of plants and barriers between. I am sure that is not 100% all of the time as all frogs behave differently, but it is working for me.

Bigger tanks are always better but not always possible

I have:

1.1 Loma Partida --> several youngs per year and no problem
1.2 Cauchero --> no youngs until 3 years but I think it's was a 2.1 remove the supposed male and have a cluth directly after but no tads
1.2 Almirante --> several youngs and no problem
2.1 Colon --> 8 youngs last year but the alpha male died in the year because of non-stopping calling and fighting to the other male
1.1 popa gold eggs but no tads (young pair)
