Default Sexing with multiple Pums

I have two tanks, of which hold 4 pumilio each (cayo de agua and esperanza). The males of both tanks call all day and all night. I can't figure out if I have any more males.

I have only seen one male of each tank call. I was hoping that if there was another male, he would compete with the other calling male so I could separate him into another tank, or show some signs of aggression so I can separate them. That is not the case, and I know I am not so lucky as to get 1.3 in both of my tanks. All of them have grown up since froglets with each other.

I have a horribly difficult time sexing them due to them not looking like fat pigs like vent females do (at least not yet).

I have not seen any aggression towards each other. They eat together, share the same broms together. The male is always calling at another frog when he calls though. Is that a sign of aggression or do they know something I don't? (calling at a female)

I have found that the easiest way to sex males is to pull them and check their throat. Occasionally you will have a completely submissive male that doesnt call, but IME, even those typically have a darker throat patch. I use a 10 in, 1-2 dia, clear plastic tube to catch the frogs, then turn it in my hand until I can get a look at their throat. Its a little easier than catching them with your hand and holding their back legs...

I agree with Cbreon: all my males have a dark throat. It's a good sign to recognize males. For example, two pics of my male Cristos (he never sang, but I have eggs in the viv). You can wait for the supposed male frog is on the glass without catch him.

I've had one male Esperanza breed without any calling or a throat patch.

Some breeders sex by throat slits, but I've had 50/50 luck with that.

Best way to know for sure is to isolate in another tank alone or with a proven female to see what happens.
