Default Hello all

Hello fellow frog enthusiasts. My name is Ben and I am fairly new to the frog keeping world. I put together my first terrarium almost a year ago, but I got bit by the bug good and I am currently setting up my fourth. I have 7 frogs at the moment, but I plan on getting a few more by this coming spring.

Welcome Ben. Glad you found your way here. The hobby can definitely be addicting, careful haha. What frogs are you currently working with?

At the moment I have two leucomelas, three azureas, and two tinctorius that were sold as "New River" but I have not seen any photos of other "New River" frogs that look anything like mine, so I am not entirely sure what they are. I am building a new enclosure for the azureas, and will likely be ready to transfer them in the next week or so. I think for the next setup I want to try Adelphobates galactanotus.

Wow. That actually shook me to the bone. And looking at it now I was very naive to think that every thing was always above board when it came to legality. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I know this is also naive, but has anyone put together a list of frogs that are legal and which ones are not?

Legality is often a function of area. For example, where I live, Phyllobates terribilis are illegal as the government thinks they are poisonous, but other toxic/poisonous species are allowed. Nothing to do with CITES at all. We still follow CITES for import into Canada, but CITES legal frogs (P. terribilis) are not allowed into Alberta (but they are allowed next door in Saskatchewan) due to lack of knowledge by the government of the day.
