Default Frog room awesome artistic skills and 40 gal viv *pic heavy

Hey first off I'd like to tell a little bit of background on the room. I am a manager for the kids side (1st thru 6th grade) at the largest Boys & Girls Club here in Salem Oregon. There is a room in the kids side that was sort of an extra multipurpose room for the kids, I wanted to put the room to better use and I convinced my supervisors to give me some grant money to 1) buy some poison dart frogs 2) build them a nice viv using an old 40 gal that was just sitting around empty and 3) paint a mural in the room to spice it up and show what the room is about. the room is called THE LAB and I designed it to be a room where kids go in and learn about the world around them. We do anything from science experiments, yoga, drama club, environmental studies, smart moves, drug prevention classes, and even snack club in this room. The subjects range widely so in a way it is still a multipurpose room but I feel it has alot more purpose!

So in the center of the wall we have a 40 gal viv that I split in half using plexiglass, on the left side there are two sub-adult azureus and on the right side a sexed pair of Bakhuis. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT MIGHT BE WORRIED ABOUT HAVING FROGS AROUND A BUNCH OF KIDS I would like to say that kids are not allowed in the room whatsoever without adult supervision, all my staff are trained in poison dart frog basics, the kids have all been instructed not to touch or even point at the glass, and we are only open to the kids for 4 hours a day, and of that, the room is open only 2-3 hours a day, so the frogs have plenty of quiet time. The frogs and viv were put in the room last summer and since then the Bakhuis have layed multiple clutches, none of the frogs are shy and they are all fatties that eat regularly, so yes the frogs are healthy for those of you that are wondering!

The walls were painted by dendroboards very own Pauliewog (Drew) who among being a local frogger and a very cool guy, is an amazing artist! Him and his talented group of friends put in a full weekends worth of work to paint the room. Very thankful for the awesome job that they did!

Now on to some pics!!

thanks for looking!

Thinking about and doing something fun for the kids: Check.
Giving them a learning experience in the process: Check.
Bringing good people out of the woodwork: Check.
Excellent artwork: Check.
Doing something good and doing it well: Check.

I'm very impressed. Oh yeah - the viv and frogs are nice too.

Dang Hector, that split 40L came out top notch. I'ma have to stop by and see it in person soon. Thanks for the oppertunity to be able to paint this at the club. It was a blast. Also, thanks to everyone for the complements. By the way, how long did it take for the room to completely air out?

It took a couple of days, 3-4. Not bad!

Thats really great thing you did for the kids! We as adults really enjoy frogs and im sure animals of all kinds but it is truly great to see kids who are able to experience these things and show interest in them.

We need more of these kinds of things in our schools and community centers today.

Great job!

Thanks guys! Yup the kids love em! They even named them, if you look closely you can see the bakhuis were named Cosmo and Wanda and the azureus were named Mario and Luigi. However from body shape it looks like they're gonna turn out to be Mariana and Luigi
