Default Could have sworn I heard one of the frogs call...

My Azureus are only 9mo 2 weeks oow.
I was sitting in my living room about 20 min after the lights went on, misted the tank and fed the frogs. About 10 min after that I heard a soft sound that was similar to springs in a couch or bed creaking. It came from the direction of my viv with the 3 subadult Azureus in it. I looked up a link with a vid of a male calling, and it sounded just like what I heard.
Do they call this early? I havent been able to tell any difference between my frogs as far as sexing them goes- but I was the only one up, and I know I didn\'t make that noise!

Anyone? I guess I will just have to keep getting up before the husband and kids in order to be able to see if I hear this noise again..
It was an exciting thought that's for sure!

I don't know anything about azureus but I remember the first time my tinc called, I thought my tummy was rumbling or maybe my syphon tube was leaking.

I've seen male tincs call after I mist, you got to be pretty close or in complete silence to hear them call.

The first and only time I heard my cobalts call was right before lights out and I was leaning down inches from their tank. I wouldn't have heard it if the lid wasn't cracked. I believe tincs can call as early as 9 months old. Males seem to mature earlier than females. It does sound like a squeaky door or spring. Congrats for your frogs calling!

My Azureus were breeding for something like 3 years before I ever heard them call. When I finally did hear it, I realized it was a familiar background noise I had heard before, but never really noticed.

It's a very quiet little "grunt-grunt" much like you describe.

Maybe you were hallucinating? They are seriously quiet. If you heard them and you weren't VERY close you have amazing ears.

I believe you heard a call. The first time I heard it I could compare it to an old door creaking in the distance. Of course, much quieter, but something similar.

I've been keeping an eye on the one that I suspect could be a male, but that's just based on size. He's a bit smaller and thinner than the others.

It normally is here too. I think that was a once time chance at hearing it. We have a coal stove for heat in our living room, so once that goes on you cant hear a thing.

It's good to know that the noise is the right sound. I'd never listened to calling videos before, and was actual suprized that the noise I heard was exactly what's on the vids!

I guess anything is possible!!! I've been convinced that I've got 3 females. I've been watching them all hoping someone will start developing heart shapped toe pads.. I guess we'll find out soon enough LOL

It was quiet, but stood out as it was so silent down here. I'm a full 9ft away from where the tank is...

I tried to debunk the sound, but it doesn't sound like pipes, I've never heard anything like that from our house before, and our neighbor wasn't home, so it couldn't have come from his house.

Thanks for the input. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they look like in a few months or so!

This site has several calls. Compare it to these and tell us what you think.

It sounded just like the call for the azureus on that site, but I heard 2 almost one right after another...

I mistook about 100 different sounds for the call before I actually confirmed I had a calling male... I'd stop dead and drop whatever I was doing and get all excited, and then figure out was wrong. I finally heard it when the tank top was open and I was in the middle of feeding... it's ridiculously quiet. Good luck though, I hope it was!

I've been hoping I had 2 pairs of Azureus, but I'd never heard any calling until a few weeks ago. When I first hear the call I knew exactly what it was (although I was in disbelief!). My room is very quiet so it makes it easier to hear. You may want to try listening for the call at the same time of day you heard it the first time - mine are calling at the same time each day.

Good luck!!!

I find its bodymovement more easy to notice than its calls. My girlfriend hears our male calling from across the room, but my ears aren't that good..

We found our first clutch today, by the way. Our couple is 1,5 yr old now.
