Default First attempt at a clay background..

Started today around 7, and finished around 9:30!!
Just has a bunch of clippings, and some philo in it right now that need to grow out, but this one was actually really fun to do!
I'm hoping to house a couple leucs in it once I get some more growth.
I had some branches that I cut from my grape vine at the end of the season last year that I washed, baked and had stored until today.
Hopefully I'll get some good growth in there.

Looks really good - almost like a rock outcropping in the Smoky Mountains. It'll look even more so when the plants grow in. Did you used a clay-based soil as well?

I just used sphagnum and orchid bark for this one, with a bit of standard non additive topsoil underneath. I am excited to see when this one grows in!

Ok. I ransacked my 55 and 10 gallon vivs nice and early this morning. Got a few more plants in there now, as well as 2 tiny planters on the background. I used empty Aerogarden pods, filled them with soil and then stuck them to the background with more clay. I want to get another cocohut in there, but otherwise I think I'm ready to let it grow out! I do have a brom with 2 pups on it that should be ready soon, and I'll probably put at least one in there.
Anyhow- here's the newest pic:

I bought Guaranteed Value cat litter from Giant grocery store. It turned super smooth just by adding hot water and stirring.

The water I used was very warm, and the clay litter was grey with no white lumps in it. It was $2.75 for a 25lb bag. Litterally I just poored the hot water in the litter and stirred it with my hand til it was smooth.

Nice! That's what I love about clay, you can keep adding to it if you think of something else you want to do, and, you can take out chunks of it if you change your mind.
