Default New 20 gal Viv

This is my second build. Man it is addicting!
It is located in my classroom. It doesn't have any frogs in it yet, but the kids are very excited. I am thinking about a couple azureus, but I am open to suggestions. I already have some leucs at home so those are out.

The tank is a 20 gal tall with a 6 line drip manifold hidden in the left top corner. I put the manifold in a 3" to 2" reducer fitting so I can get my hand in there and adjust the drips. 4 of the drips are on the back wall and 2 drip down the driftwood on the left and into the little pond.

I love my little mini begonia in the front.

Phil,

Try Leca instead of gravel....much much lighter in case you have to move the tank and I see that you are using these in a classroom setting.

Nice Viv as well!

Phil

Thanks for the input. I did use mostly Leca, but I don't like the look of it through the glass. I used just a thin layer of gravel to hold down the screen and then pushed the gravel and screen down on the front glass. I set it up at home, without plants or water, and was able to carry it by myself into my classroom. I wanted to make sure I could carry it because, even though I come in 3 times a week to take care of my reef tank during the summer, I don't trust the air conditioning during the summer.

How about auratus? You wouldn't really have to deal with territorial issues.

I was thinking about maybe 3 or 4 green and black auratus (I personally like them better than azureus), but I was worried about them hiding too much.

Azureus are probably going to be a bit more bold in the classroom and would probably get more of an "aw factor".

I agree. Azureus are beautiful frogs and never fail to gain peoples interest.

Well, I went to see Jon Garrett and Eric Malolepsy this afternoon and had a great time visiting in their "frog office". They have over 100 tanks with frogs and rare plants in all of them! I must admit, I think I might have enjoyed looking at the plants as much or more than the frogs.
I was able to pick up 3 little azureus. All three ate within minutes of being put into their new home. I am sure my high schoolers will be very excited come Monday.

I don't have any pics of my tank at school, but here is composite shot of one of my tanks at home (55gal) from last summer.

So three azureus are alright in a 20 gallon high? This is what I am constructing and those are the frogs I plan on keeping.

Phender, what grade do you teach? Just curious. I just graduated with my early ed degree

Yes, it is a 20 gal high. The 3 azureus are only about a month or so out of the water so they are only about 3/4". I realize that I may have to move one out when they get bigger.

Congrats on your graduation. I have been teaching high school for over 20 years. The last 10 years or so have been mostly 11th and 12th graders.
