Default New guy ?

Im looking at getting my first PDF. A local guy makes tanks. He sent me this pic of one he is selling. Would this be a good start? What would you change.

This is what he sent me.
This tank is beautiful, has a faux rock wall that is custom made with planter spots keep in mind this is not the cheapo foam one that comes with, i also made a "moss soup" that has been coated onto the back wall and is starting to turn green and will grow. the tank has a false bottom to keep humidity high and provide drainage for watering of plants. Currently i have 5 bromeliads in the tank some ground cover that is just starting to take and lots of leaf litter

looks nice to me. If you want to get a pre made viv for your first one, I say go for it. However I and many many others here like making vivs as much as staring at frogs! The hobby is great and you can always learn something new. So get the viv learn from it, then start making your own.

yeah thats a nice start, a lil too much for a quarantine tank though, looks like a 12 x 12 x 18? i would say thats a tank for some of the smaller species of darts such as the thumbs and pums species, which some say is not the best type of dart to be your first, which i happen to agree with.. If your leaning towards a more terrestriel frog i would think you need a bit more surface area. . .but see if you can get the dimensions of the tank, and we could probably be a bit more help

I think this is a great start if your looking for a pre-built setup, it has everything you need, i personally wouldnt change anything....what type of frogs are you thinking of putting in there?

It's pretty nice the only thing I would personally change would be the (What looks like) all leaf litter bottom so you could add some terrestial plants. It might not look like a leaf litter bottom in a full size pictur but that's what it looks like on my small Iphone screen...

Oh and I don't beleive the "Moss Soup" thing will work.

Yes its 12x12x18
I have alot of knowledge in Geckos and this would be my first setup. I figured id learn from this and build on. Ive built alot of custom desert tanks but nothing like this. More then likely I was looking at starting with a Dendrobates Auratus. The moss soup thing didnt sound to cool but IDK we shall see lol

Auratus could work, but i would think they need more land surface 12 x 12 does not seem like nearly enough room for them. . .just my opinion tho

I think you would be fine with just 1 auratus or maybe even a little better to get 1 leucomelas. The leucs are usually more prone to climbing so they could make better use of the height. Just my opinion.

BTW, the "moss soup" is a way to jump start moss growth. It should turn into regular moss growing all over the background which will look really good.

You can't go wrong with a leucomelas.
