Default Quarantine containers and tanks

Well i might need more QT than just 1 small exo terra soon, so i was wondering if anyone could post pics of their QT tanks/containers and how they're set up? Like enclosures and substrates etc, i guess differing procedures/length of times that you follow also, thanks!

Wink Re: Quarantine containers and tanks

I use the 190 oz. containers. I forget the name of the place that sells them. I use them so I can have some time to plan out my tanks. So by the time I get finished the frogs are almost ready to move in. After the acclimation period of course. I usually wait about 2-3 weeks before putting them in. But back to the containers they take up less room and can be stacked. I can also wash them with a bit of bleach and hot water and reuse them as well. I usually leave them ( the frogs) in quarantine for about 3 months. Which also gives me some time to be lazy.... Oh sorry. I use to use coco fiber, but have stopped using that all together. It eventually turns to mud. Now I use Sphagnum moss and leaf litter. I sometimes through in a few film cannisters.

KIS - Space For You - Omnibox

Plastic...small multiple sizes...nesting for easy storage...easy to clean and disinfect.....cheap

Doubles as grow outs, media storage, feeder insects and transport containers.

the have crystal clear boxes / totes to include clear lids for max light transference.

they also make a smoky grey for Iso and Spring cultivation.

Kmart carries them....

Philsuma,
I like those. Thanks for posting that link. Now does anyone remember the site that you can convert the H x W to get the gallons?

We highly recommend the 190 oz containers. Sphagnum moss, seeded with springtails, a few plant clippings, and a film canisters. Here is a picture:

Kmart is easier and you should really check em out in person to see if you like them and all the different sizes.

Just picked up a few 6.5 quarts a few days ago for my red ami's, azureus, and quinq's that are coming out of the water! At $1.88 each you really can't beat it!

Why do you prefer smoky ones for spring cultivation? I ask because I am waiting on my charcoal to get here to make a few.

The smokey ones are just neat looking and if does seem like the springs and Isopods produce better in lower light levels and that way you don't have to put them away in a dark cabinet or drawer.

Thanks so far all good ideas, do you all keep them all sealed up or let any type of airflow in?

I always keep my Quarintine and hospital tanks a little more humid than normally required for any given species and a little warmer, with more steady temps, not fluctuating.

Here are some pics of my QT setup.

I received 7 leuc juveniles from Brian's Tropicals last week. Sorry I dont have any pics of them yet...they are still a bit timid. Though here is my setup.

I have a large sweater box with water and a submersible Tetra Water heater...keeps the water at 76 degrees. Just above the water is a layer of eggcrate and the shoe box size containers from Kmart...$1.89 each...the lid snaps on but does not quite keep the ff's in. I used a hole saw to cut a hole in the lids for feeding without too much interruption. The holes are plugged with some foam padding. I have a light on them 12 hrs a day to give them a chance for hunting ff's.

In each container i have the Orchid Moss from Lowes, yougart cups, and magnolia leaves. to provide cover.

These frogs were all raised together and shipped in the same containers....thus cross contamination is not something I am concerned with....just keeping them in individual containers so I can see who's eating and who is not. It's more like I can see who is poopin' and who isnt. These guys stay pretty well hidden in the leaves, though it wont be long until they make the connection between me and ff's.

I also have a temp probe in one of the containers to monitor the temps.....meanwhile the 90 gallon continues to grow in and I have a little more motivation to get the canopy hood started and fans installed.

I use the same 19qt containers, clear tops are a must in my opinion.

I like this idea I use the 190oz containers. Every time I open the top to feed it scares the frogs. This way would reduce some of the stress.

Eric,

NICE job. I see someones else really likes those cool, inexpensive, crystal clear KIS brand plastic totes found at Kmart! Love em.

Some flies squeeze out but hey....no biggie. Most stay in and the ever so slight gap is good for some airflow as well.

I would be GREAT to get a small round, clear louver like application to insert into the top. Something that could open or close a bit so as to regulate air flow...adjustable.

Appholstry type louver? Furniture store?

First one to find and develope this important modification wins the admiration of DB!!
