Default First vivarium

Finishing up my first vivarium. Its a 20H with egg crate false bottom wrapped in fiberglass window screen and has tree fern panels for background. Built the stand as well from cheap pine 2x4 and 2x6. Thanks for the ideas about silicone around the false bottom and painting the outside of tank to hide it Mark @encyclia.

This came out great! It has a really clean look to it. I love the stand, too. Those are really nice, flat, uniform tree fern panels. Where did you get those?

Mark

They fit perfectly. False bottom is about 3" tall. Put some silicone on them and pressed them in. Researching plants that I can attach to the background. Pretty happy with how the build has turned out thus far. Will update as it progresses.

Something I did that may be helpful to others future builds is where the pvc pipe comes out of the false bottom for draining i cut an X through the substrate barrier inserted the pipe and siliconed a plastic flange over it to keep substrate out of the bottom.

Update: quarantined plants for little over a month and now moved them in. I have pothos, fitonia, maidens hair fern, and begonia in there. The substrate is a mix of repti bark, sphag moss, charcoal, and coco fiber. Will autoclave some leaves to add in. Debating on what to put in there, maybe even a crested gecko instead of dart frogs. Suggestions on fauna appreciated.
