Default Male?

I think my smallest azureus is a male. I was told he was 6 months old in March but it is just so much smaller than the other girls who are about it's same age. Crystal and I both think it is a male but I want to be sure. It is in a 120g with 3 known females and doesn't show interest in the ladies.

looks like a male from the pics! but just compare his toe pads to the females you have and if his are larger tehn you will have a male, or if you have a female in another tank introduce them and see what kind of behavior you get.

He has big toe pads - but that doesn't mean it is a male. You need to get some profile shots as well.

In all honesty - the size issue might not mean a thing either.

His toes do look larger than the females but the difference is just marginal. I am going to introduce him to a different tank of females in a few weeks if in fact he is a male. He is under a large piece of driftwood right now. I will see if I can get a profile picture of him in a bit. He is in his mid morning chill out spot.

It will take the females to get him interested, they will start to chase him around and stroking his sides, when you see that going on you should have eggs soon after. I personally think the best breeding stimulation is to seperate the sexes, if you keep males and females apart for a couple of months and they are fed out and mature you will most assuredly get courting behaviour immediately after introduction.

I actually don't want these guys breeding. If it is a male, it will be going to a different home to breed with a friend's female.

OK here are some profile shots to determine the sex...

This one below is a known female (she's laid eggs)

I tried to take a picture of both the female and the frog in question in close to the same stance to see if there is a profile difference.

Definitely looks like a male to me. In that first side shot, the toe pads look HUGE! I vote male!

Ok thank you. I am going to introduce him to one of Crystal's ladies and see if they can turn him on in a week or so.

If you said male, you are correct. He is in the process of fertilizing his first batch of eggs as we speak.
