Default 10gal Vert

Well, after some studying up, some purchases, a visit to Wal-Mart's photo lab, and some good old wood baking, here is my 10 gallon vertical project. And so I don't get "jerk" written on my arm again in permanent marker, my fiance did the wonderful false bottom mesh wrapping. :P This is my first time using GS and I'm proud to say that there are no new stains on clothing, carpet, or skin.

Updates as I get to them.

8) 8) nice nice .. just wondering why you have a false bottom if there is no water feature?? i just assumed people only used them for water features? couldnt harmful bacteria build up under the tank with standing still water?

Well I guess it doesn't make much diffrence comparing a false bottom to a drainage layer of hydroton.

When you have a drain you can drain and refresh the water so harmfull bacteria can't get into the water.

So my thoughts are if he makes a drain i wouldn't be a problem..

i didnt see a drainage pipe thats why i ask? but then you could always just take a turkey baster and suck the water out. i think ive seen a few people do that

That's all I do is use a turkey baster to do my water changes. It takes a little more time than if you had a drain, but it works.

What are you going to coat the GS with? I assume silicon then sand or coco fiber. I learned the hard way the grouting something with lots of nooks and crannies is a pain.

Yeah, black silicone (the right kind). I'm going to do a layer of it to cure first, so that'll smooth out the nooks a bit. Then when that's cured I'll apply the tacky coat for the coco fiber. I can't wait till my finger heals up... Really screwing plans up.

Brown silicone is even better if you happen to stumble upon some. Black works fine though. Can't you get your fiance to work on the silicone and coco too? If she does most of the work she'll get attached to the project and then she'll enjoy it more. The more she enjoys it the more tanks you're allowed to have
