ready for the leap of faith

crickets congregate in the Spanish moss at the uppermost part of the viv, so.............

LATEST FTS SHOT showing that all plants have now covered the canopy. if you note where the pics were taken you can see that they do get about some in here.

thank you.
the viv heating, lighting and misting is fully automated and all I have to do is replenish the pool twice a week, top up the livefeed when low and refill the misting reservoir every 2/3 weeks.

Default Update pics

just a little update to show how things have progressed, foliage wise, in the wee forest.

FLOOR:

all the plants that are shown here have been established for a year now and some have regular pruning like the ferns and the middle brom'. thick layer of leaf litter has made the mantella go underground! for feeding. the substrate lives and has never had to be topped up with any more bugs due to the conditions suiting them well to breed and thrive. some plants have been and gone/replaced but this will be the set look now and gives me a natural look to the floor that I like.
some light trickles down from the tubes but the floor greenery gets bright light from 2 LED bulbs a few hours per day.

CANOPY:

I lowered and put the canopy branch at a more horizontal angle to stretch entirely across the viv because there was an annoying gap on the left side which I needed to bridge. plant growth has been fantastic up here. I cut the stems of the umbrella plant that grow forward to keep light to a maximum for the front/lower part of the viv. the rubber plants gets its leaves/stems cut so as to leave it running along the side and back that can be seen in the pic to cover them areas for effect and for the gecko to move around on.
I have one 30" 25W(non reptile) tube for daylight purposes and the greenery thrives from the arcadia 6% tropical tube along side it.

FTS:
***PLEASE CLICK THIS IMAGE!***
as it stands today. the viv equipment has been trouble free with one exception, the mistking seconds timer, more on that elsewhere!
the ceramic/pulse thermostat is a great combination and i'm still using the same CHE after 4 yrs of use.
I need to get rid of some lighting fixtures/routine by employing a dawn to dusk dimmer for tubes if and when one becomes available on the market for a better lighting regime.

thank you

there has been eggs but I do not pull them due to this not being a breeding program and the fact that there are two types of mentella in here. over time, i will just have the golden mantella as guests then i will keep/pull eggs for raising, hopefully.

i make all the décor from celotex and spaceboard insulation.

your welcome.

even though this has been a successful project I am now planning a version 2 of this build which will incorporate a few improvements I think will benefit the running of. this will also be a lot wider too so as we are house hunting I will be looking at the alcove size in any suitable home, sad or what!!

showing how popular this bathing spot is. she sat here later on in the same day the blue leg did as per previous pic.
they prefer to just sit on any ledge that is just about covered in water.
