Default Ohio Proposed Reptile law, anyone have the details?

I was at the Columbus reptile show to pickup some crickets and they had someone talking about a proposed reptile law... Does anyone happen to have the details of this proposed law? They said it is not public yet as they are still finalizing it. I did not have time to sign up to get the notifications and had my hands full, but from what people were saying it sounded crazy!

Things like:
Banning almost all exotics and people that have them currently would have to pay $100 an animal up to a $1000 max to keep them and after they are gone you would not be allowed to replace them.... I briefly looked at the list and it seemed to be pages and pages long including things like basic iguanas to tigers.

Thanks for any info,

I have heard that all constricting snakes that get over 8 ft are supposed to be included in the ban but did not hear that they would charge $100 an animal. These laws are getting ridiculous. I can understand banning tigers and certain exotic species, but iguanas?

Default Exotic Laws

A number of years ago they passed a similar law here in Indiana. This law basicaly stated that anything venemous could not be sold, bought or in possession. A number of small reptile shows in Ft.Wayne had DNR patroling to make sure nobody was in violation. A vendor from Columbus named Tim Talbot had a group of Auratus and he was told to keep them out of sight and not to bring them back. At least they weren't confinscated, I always wondered what happened to him, I had heard problems in Colombia, but that could be just a viscious rumor. After 2 or 3 years the DNR decided that captive bred darts were not the same as gaboon vipers or spitters, Thank God.

I would contact your state representative(s) immediately, and tell them in no uncertain terms that you vociferously oppose such legislation. Also, I would find out all the members of whatever committee(s) is in charge of introducing such legislation and tell all of them that you are opposed, and even offer to testify in committee.

If you sit back and wait for whatever happens, you will possibly find yourself presented with a fait accomplis.
