Default Giant Waxy Monkey Frog ??

I just received a call from someone who has a pair of these....they are concerned about their health and I dont know anything about them...She says:
They are not eating(she's trying to hand feed) she has not seen them eat or poop(its been a month or 2) I told her they must be eating or else they wouldnt be alive still(am i wrong)
Also, she noted that they are developing "brwon spots" on thier skin...any thoughts??

If anybody could help that would be great, or even point me to the correct resources.
Thanks in advance...

I had a couple of them before I got into darts. What is the temp like for them? is there a water bowl? suppliments? WC or CB? I know that a couple of mine turned brown due to stress or temp. If I can recall, they don't like getting sprayed at with water.

Cheers,
Ethin

quite a few people keep these and frequent talk to the frog.
spotting allways makes me think chytrid but then again can be perfectly normal in alot of treefrogs. I think I have seen brown patching show up on them before on other peoples frogs but not sure.

http://talkto.thefrog.org/

be prepaired to give all info on how they are being kept and pictures
this will help diagnose the problem

ok good to know, I think she may be stressing with trying to hand feed. She does have a water dish for them, she said she mists 2x a day but feels that is too much b/c she says she knows they dont like it. She said her temps at around 84, and humidity at 35%(i recommended raising humidity) she says she cant without misting. hmm. I don't know if wild caught or not, she says they aren't adult sized yet, but close to it. She dusts her crickets but she says she has never seen them eat or poop or drink form the bowl. I read something abut UVB being recommended, is it necessary?
I'm trying to get her to email some pics, she doesn't seem to be too techno savvy though.

I think 40 to 50 % humidity is about what they like. this is why they produce a wax on their skin . the spotting could have come from direct spraying. I think with these kind of frogs bacterial skin infections from humidity being to high can be a problem.

Thank you for the information and the site, though after using this site so much, that other site looks jumbled and confusing...I'm still waiting for photos. She says there are crix leftover, so i told her to not feed more tonight and see whats left in the morning and to NOT spray them directly, which she has been doing. I feel bad she is SOOO worried. I told her it doesnt sound like they are nearing immediate death to try and calm her. She was going to go get a UVB but i told her i dont think it's really required since it wont really penetrate the glass anyway. I'll upload pics as soon as they arrive. Thanks again

The cage setup looks like it should be suitable. Uv is recommended for these guys and she could mount it on the side going through the screen. My P. bicolor is solid green with no spotting like that at all. I've not seen that on any of the monkey frogs I've seen. My guess would be some sort of bacterial condition. Maybe contacting Mike Novy would be helpful.

Rainforest Junky's - Home

He usually prefers you call him as he claims to not be very tech savvy. He's probably one of the best in the country working with monkey frogs.

Thank you so much, I gave her his #. I couldn't really be much help. She is going to go get UVB ASAP also. Again, thanks so much, I was in a panic thinking I cant really help her, and I don't even know the lady. She's going to let me know what she finds out, i'll update with the news.

Novy is definitely the guy to talk to. Also, that is a Waxy Monkey frog (P. sauvagi), not a Giant Waxy (P. bicolor).

Knowing the pet store she got them from, I think Novy is who they may have come from originally. She was thrilled to get his contact info, so hopefully all works out for her. She's suppose to call when she finds anything out. I have certainly learned a lot about these frogs in a small amount of time, lol.
She said Giant waxy monkey, i will inform her the true name, if she doesn't figure it out. Darn pet store should be more helpful to their customers, on the other hand she may want some dart frogs, so I gained a potential buyer.
Thanks again and again

Those are waxys, not giants. Waxys need higher temps, mine in the day get up into low 90s, lots of uv, a light misting at night will get them active and feeding.

I got an update the other day. She said it is a bacterial infection and she is treating accordingly.
Thanks again for all of your help!
