Default Costa Rica Vacation in Feburary

I am going to Costa Rica end of February with my family and would like any recommendations for great places to stay to see O.pumilio, D.autatus. I see from other threads that Cahuita is a good place to start. Any recommendations on places to stay with frog friendly owners?
thanks!

Last year I visited La fortuna in may. Was quiet as beggining of wet season although had dry weather luckily.

There were blue jeans everywhere! Even found a poor guy in our hotel pool so got him on a leaf and into some leaf litter. We did a frog tour at one of the hotels and saw RETF as well as several other frogs. Didnt catch glass frogs although they are there. There is meant to be auratas in the area too.

Overall worth a look if you want to see that kind of wildlife.

Where in Costa Rica will you be staying? I stated in Tortuguero on the Caribbean side and pumilio were everywhere along with red eye tree frogs, eyelash vipers and even laying sea turtles.

On the Pacific side Caracas national park had a LOT of auratus.

Costa Rica is an amazing place.

Stayed on the Osa Peninsula and saw a ton of auratus, red eyed tree frogs, and glass frogs, in addition to lots of other animals.

Where did you all stay when you visited? What did you think of your accommodations?

A little late, but years ago I was in the Talamanca region and saw tons of auratus. La Selva has tons of males along some of the trails, although not sure if seeing them is seasonal or not-- I was there in June.

I have spent considerable time in Costa Rica. As other posters have said, La Fortuna is a great place for blue jeans pumilio and I have seen them there. I have seen green/black auratus on the pacific coast near the town of Uvita, along a short hike to a waterfall. I didnít personally see Phyllobates vittatus on the Osa Peninsula, but they are there and our guide had seen them recently prior to our visit. Finally - and this is a place you donít hear about too often - there is a great private preserve called the Rainmaker Conservation Project along the pacific coast, about halfway between Dominical and Manual Antonio. I would choose a visit there over Manual Antonio every time. Way less touristy, and they have a great network. Most of the preserve is old growth - one of the largest fragments of virgin pacific lowland rainforest between the Osa and Carrera NP. I know Iím sounding like a fanboy right now, but I really do like this place, and as a private preserve, people visiting are how it sustains itself. We did a guided night hike in early May at Rainmaker and saw all kinds of goodies, including a Fleischmannís glass frog.

Looks like Iím late replying on this post, but I love Costa Rica and had to reply. Let me know if you have any questions!

I also recommend La fortuna, you should add that on your list. We also plan to go there next year after this pandemic is over.
