Question Just getting into reptiles

Hello everyone,

As you can see by the title i am just getting into reptiles and the idea of actually owning one myself but i have loved reptiles for a long time. Ever since i was a child i have loved reptiles but snakes especially but my misses is frightened to death of snakes so this won't work inside the home. When it comes to frogs as long as she don't touch them its ok, to be honest that is ok with me. Also this is a way for me to introduce her into the reptile life style and before you know it we will have all kinds. What i need from you guys is a little pro info, what kind of size tank should i be looking at to start off with and how many can i keep in the same tank?

Looking forward to your reply's guys.

Thanks

Hello and welcome! Everything you need to get started can almost all be found by using the search feature of this site. However, beware. This hobby can be incredibly adictive!

Welcome. This is a great way to introduce the misses into reptiles. The frogs are cute so they tend to put up with all the bugs and such that go along with the hobby. Frequent trips to the local pet store bring exposure to other lizards and snakes. Over time she may become comfortable. I've experienced this first hand. As far as tanks go I like exo terras. You can easily access the whole tank from the front, however you are somewhat limited by size

I must admit i am looking forward to getting m misses into the reptile side of life!!! And i agree, introduce her slowly and then get her into the snakes. As of the exo terras tank i understand that these are made for reptiles but could i use a old large fish tank? Like here: http://www.australia.for-sale.com/fish-tank I have a fish tank that is not being used in the garage, very large and its a curved front with a beautiful wooden base so it looks real nice. Or will i have problems with access or other unforeseen problems??

Thanks for the reply's guys

This may be nitpicking, but... frogs are amphibians

If you wanted a reptile rather than an amphibian, perhaps a gecko? A lot of people find them less objectionable than snakes. It was certainly an easier sell to my landlady.

If you haven't got your heart set on a reptile, dart frogs do seem rather awesome.
