Default Late spring

Every year for the past five years my Mesotrition alpestris apanus have started laying in mid-April, regular as clockwork. As there has been some variation in temperatures from year to year, I've put this regularity down to day length, since they are in a location which receives only natural light.

This year, after the hardest winter for more than ten years, they started laying two weeks late. I guess temperature over the preceding few months does play a role in determining the time of breeding then. Mum's hungry now and wants a snack:
