Default New frogs only interested in hunting for springtails

So a week ago my 4 leucs moved into my first viv. All seems generally good as theyre active and about regularly.

Only minor concern is they seem totally absorbed with hunting for the springtails that have colonised the cork background so whilst I'm dusting and putting flies in for food, they generally ignore their availability in favour of being half way up the wall sniffing out springtails.

How long is this ok for and at what point does it become a concern, and is there anything I should do to encourage them to go for a more nutritious snack?

Definitely strange. When I owned luecs, they never missed a meal. Ever. Where other species seemed to have diminished appetites the next day after a large feeding, luecs would still clean house of every fly I put in the tank.

Are they maintaining weight?
How large are they?
Are you sure they are not eating them when you are not looking?
How much/often are you feeding them flys?

Great questions from varanoid that should help track down the issue.

My adult leucs also eat springtails all day, but they also eat all the FFs I put in (every two or three days, a very generous amount of flies), and would probably eat a small bird if one flew into the viv... Bottomless pits, those frogs.

Another question related to the one about how large/old the frogs are are is what species/strain of FFs are you feeding? I feed wingless (smaller than flightless), and in the past they have turned their noses up at hydei.

Not sure what they're up to, but the setup is beautiful!

Have you tried dumping flies next to them when they do come down off the background? Or putting flies on the background? Maybe they somehow don't realize that you're feeding them. I had tincs, not leucs, but they quickly learned to associate the tapping of the container with food and would come running.

You're not alone with this, we have had Amazonica for a month and they're the same apart from 1 frog that takes all the flies. We now have 1 very very fat frog and the rest that are still happily chasing the springtails all day.

It's still early and they are probably just figuring out how to make their way around their new enclosure. If it continues, though, try a feeding station for a few days so they get used to where the food is. Put a slice of banana or other fruit in the spot where you feed. When you take the banana out after a few days, feed in that same spot. Also, I only feed my frogs every other day (actually, usually three times a week). There shouldn't be flies in there when you feed next. They should be mopping them up before the next feeding.
