Default Alternative RFB media mix

I've been experimenting with different media mixes for my RFB cultures and I have a mix that seems to be producing well. 4 parts whole wheat flour sifted with 1 part powdered milk.

Anyone tried different media mixes with any success?

Anything that increases the protien content will work well, you could get similar results with any flour with some brewer's yeast added. If you want to see a real boom, use any of those medias and add a small piece of carrot or apple (about the size of a number two pencil eraser) (but make sure you have good ventilation or else the media will mold).

Thanks Ed, tried this particular mix as I didn't have easy access to brewer's yeast at the time.

I'll have to try adding a piece of carrot and see how it produces!

How does adding the carrot or apple make it boom?is it because it gives it a little moisture?

Yep, but it needs to be a very small piece and changed out every couple of days.
