Default Isnt 1 month for a culture too old?

I just got a beginner package from eds. The culture was seeded on june 17. Is this not too old of a culture to sell? I thought the peak of a culture is two weeks after it is made. There are about 15 flies. Many Pupa, Many black Pupa and some larvae crawling around at the bottom. Is this right?
I need more flies than this to feed my frogs. Im just wondering if I will get some soon. Well for now I have pinheads. Thanks for the help.

Did you get the Melanogastor or Hydei? The Hydei take at least 3 weeks, sometimes longer, to kick in from the day they are made and the Melanogastor take about 11 days or so to kick in.

They should be booming right about now. I would give it another day and call Dave or Erin.

I should also mention that I always use a starter kit to seed many more cultures. In other words, I don't feed from it until I have made enough cultures. In your case and depending on how many frogs you have, I would make 3-4 cultures every 5-7 days.

Maybe since the temp was above 85 degrees they died? They were shipped with cool packs so I dont think it should have been a problem although they did not gurantee live arrival. Its very hard to get a hold of them to ask questions. I think I will just have to buy 5 cultures and overnight them.

If the flies died in transit you'd see them all over the bottom of the culture. Black pupae would indicate the flies are getting ready to hatch.

I get larvae in about 10 days, a few flies over the next week, and then tons starting after that. I got my 1st culture from Ed's and it looked about as you described. Give it a week and it will produce like crazy.

I looked inside the culture and it looked like there were a few more flies today so I hope they start booming soon. Thanks for the help.
