Don't keep them in your room! They have a loud call and wake me up everyday! Learn from me, keep them in your frog room. But other than tag they are great.

I can speak to this. I have two males in my trio that call constantly and it would be way too loud for my bedroom.

Hey...that was pretty funny....think it would be a worthwhile thread to make a "loudness" scale for the different frogs??? I think it could be pretty amusing, and of course educational...takers???

Cowboy, SI's are for the frogroom for sure. You should get some bicolor for the bedroom.

I used to have a pair of green trivs. The male called constantly. Even though the frogs were on the other side of the house, his call was soo loud I couldn't sleep or concentrate. I ended up trading them because they are too loud to have in the same house with me.

I actually have a pair of SI males in a tank and they don't call all that often. Unlike the majority of my tanks theirs is not on an automated misting system so it tends to stay a bit drier than a typical viv.

Just food for thought.

That is good to know, I will cut back misting and see if it changes anything.

These guys are interesting...the call carries remarkably well and is not readily muffled by anything. I have pumilio, vittatus, and anthonyi and the anthonyi can be heard distinctively through half the house. vittatus probably have the most pleasant call and it also carries a room or two over. The pumilio with the familiar grating chirp are very audible in the same room, but it loses a lot of its tonal qualities from far away. I keep pumilio and vittatus in my bedroom and love waking up to the male pumilio serenading. I keep my anthonyi elsewhere due to my bedroom being warm but while I am half asleep they sound like they are in my room-haha

I dont know, I have a male Rio Saladillo ...(looking for female), and his call is quite beautiful, usually for about 1 hour daily between 9:30-11am and its not super loud but pleasant, my frog room is my home office so I enjoy listening while doing home work or gaming lol Ive heard they are somewhat on the quiet side of Anthonyi though lol

I don't have a problem with calling... its the 6 super bright LED lights that come on in the morning that wake me up! Wish I had a separate room to put my frogs in!

My Leucs used to be like that. Talamancae were like that also but it was like a quick whistle. I used to have ALOT of tokay morphs, and had most of them in my bedroom the first few months. Let me tell you I would gladly take the morning wakeup call of any dart over those tokays.

then get ear plugs. it will quiet down their "noise." I don't mind my frogs calling. but I hate the coon hound dogs across the street howling at any little thing that walks by the house.

As I was considering housing a group of anthonyi in my lounge I too would really like to understand how loud they can be - has anyone ever shot a video whilst watching tv at normal volume with the sound of their frogs calling in the background so that we can get some sort of real life comparison?
I've tried searching on youtube etc but haven't found anything that actually provides real time noise comparison.

I really like these frogs but there's no point if noise levels are at too high a volume.

I have several anthonyi "Highland", but no problem with their call, it isn't too loud for me. They call especially in courtship - males are in different vivs - and at certain times, such as when I increase misting.
Anyway, the call of my "Highland" is not as loud as the call of my Solarte or Almirante.

So I think this is a really good idea! I've had to wear earplugs at night when my Milky frogs are in the rainchamber - and they aren't even in my room!

Good to know!

I have leucs in my bedroom, and they are loud enough to wake me up. Something "significantly" louder would have me on the verge of a coronary.

Thankfully, the Leucs seem to have stopped calling randomly in the middle of the night lol....

Maybe that was not randomly... Maybe they just wanted to sing along with your snoring?

I've also been interested in how loud certain calls actually are as well! Alot of videos I've seen have been up close to the frog and I'm curious how a glass tank with glass canopy will muffle the calls.
I know "loud" depends on the person but frogs calling is a big part of my debate on which frogs to house

If your tank is ventilated properly there will always be a place for the sound to escape the tank.

If you're worried about noise get some D. tinctorius. They are incredibly quiet callers. I have to really listen to hear my male patricia call. It certainly can't be heard outside of the room.

I also have the extreme opposite. My P. terribilis can be heard from the 1st floor even though their tank is on the second floor. If you or anyone in your house would be annoyed by calling never get terribilis.

Between my terribs, luecs, and SI the house can get very loud at times. I keep them all in my living room though. I like the calling battles they all seem to get into.
The tincs morphs I've got I have yet to ever hear call but I know there are males because I have good clutches. Very quite frogs.

Just as an aside, my Santa Isabels were really quiet for the first year or so that I owned them. I recently redid their tank and noticed that things were really dry in there (more so than I thought). During the redo, I paid closer attention to limiting the ventilation and now it is quite humid in there. The difference has been remarkable. They call almost constantly now, and I got my first clutch of eggs. I felt really bad because they could not have been comfortable before. Guess it was a good learning experience for me...

I'd honestly like to hear them calling which is the only reason I'm leaning away from tincs, just not looking for something that will be so loud it will drive everyone nuts.

These guys are awesome; however, I would like to add that those videos do not really even do them justice...I have about a 2300 square foot home and you can hear them clearly at any end of them home, and even from outside!

Try to look up the post from Stemcelluar (Ray), he posted a video of his room when the lights first go on. It's great. I wish my room would sound like that.
