Default Whole Tab adds?

I'm getting whole-screen adds popping up in a new tab every so often only from this site. The add is for a company that sponsors vertical scope, not one of our site sponsors. (One just popped up now lol). It navigates me away from my current page, and is getting really frustrating.

Is this going to be a continuing trend? Those kinds of adds are very annoying and really distracting. Not going to lie, the straws are piling up on the camels back.

Were you logged in? Do you happen to have a screen shot? I have not noticed anything while logged in.

What difference does it make if we`re logged in or not?
This site has turned into a giant billboard. Someone just let me know if this is the way it`s going to be.
If I want to see JC Penny I`ll go to the freakin mall.

Sorry, it`s been one of those days.

LOL I just deleted one before I read the update, I'll get it for you. I'll click around a bit and get a screen shot.

I don't mind the adds at the bottom of the page. I ignore them like anything else. I also realize that the company has investors just like this site does. The sponsors may have an issue with it, but as a reader, I go to the sponsor section or side tab to browse through them. What irritates me is that it's opening tabs on my screen, which means it's sending more than just pictures through my web browser. It's things like that which lead to phishing viruses, malware, and the whole gamut of stuff.

Its a common practice to run more ads and reduce them for logged in users. With that said the concern has been expressed to them.

What happens it becomes routine to ignore the ads, thus ignoring the sponsors. This is a place to discuss frogs. I find it odd that I have three ads now as I write this: one on lamps, one on ZAGG, and one on car insurance. No sponsors.

So my question is, why are you guys seeing all these strange ads and pop ups, but I'm not seeing anything different than what I have been seeing for the last 3-4 months?

I guess it has to do with your browser and settings. Personally, I don't like ads at all, on any site, and go out of my way to not have them. If I want to buy something, I'll go looking for info on it. Don't need or want it forced on me. I do not use Internet Explorer and I do use an add-on that blocks ads.

I hope I don't get banned for not looking at the ads.

Ok, here`s what I`m getting. Reading the above post from Kris when I`m NOT logged in certain words are highlighted in green. Clicking on those words will open up an advertisement.
Why?

I am the same way, however the in thread ads are not blocked the tread still exist. At this time it is only for unregistered members. I suspect that will change as I have seen on other forums.

maybe it's the browser and add-ons I am using, but I'm not noticing a real increase in add space.

Is that even really an issue? I mean, you literally need to do something to even see them.

A quick fix would not be clicking on the green words

Exactly. Why would you even click on a word in a post. Read the post and move on, plus who doesn't log on when they go to a forum?

Complainers will always complain.

Also we aren't footing the bill to host this website and bandwith. Let's make everyone pay $20 and see if some posters will want the ads back.

Unless your contributing (with cash) you really don't have a say. Do you know how much it costs with bandwith and hosting to run a site like this? It isn't $50.

You realize you just quoted a member and stated they should pay to use the site to a Dedicated Supporter. That is someone who has given monetarily to support the website.

I'm on the Tapatalk forum app. It doesn't show me. I fully can understand then why the poster is posting what he/she posted.

It still takes more then a $50 donation to run a site of this magnitude.

Well it did, for many years. Also with frog related banner ads. I don't think any one is complaining about that. There's new site ownership and it has brought all the new ads with absolutely, no relationship to frogs at all, and, that's what's annoying people. These ads are reported to be within the threads, pop ups, tabs (don't know what that even means). It's that new bombardment with unrelated ads that is making people feel abused.

Ok sort this out:

While I have ads blocked on my own computer, DB banner ads did show up on my work computer. Now, all of the ads on DB are blocked by my work computer. Any ideas why this is? I work for the govt. My thought is that whatever was advertised before didn't raise any flags but our system is blocking out the new ads for some reason. I don't mean to imply that there is anything necessarily nefarious with the new ads, just that the govt won't let me look at them.

I get messages from my work computer, when I look at CNN, that says it is blocked (various pictures and videos) due to pornography and gambling and whatever other nonsense that is not allowed on the network.

Hello everyone,

Apologies for being late to answer this. The inline ads/post bit ads that you are seeing will disappear when you log in.

I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way in writing but do you guys not log in when you visit DB?

I'm using chrome. I'm not sure I'm running any type of additional script, but am pretty sure it's the basic version

are you using ad-block, or anything similar with fire fox?

I don't think it comes off "the wrong way". It takes 10 seconds if that to log in. Sure I might not actually post, but if I do I always want to be logged in. At home or work or wherever I am. I think it is quite normal for a website to have more ads for a complete stranger than a member.
