Default Popups

I have had two different people show me two different Popups that have marred their DB experience recently.

I know you need the URL to "kill" these - but I think you need to investigate a way to preemptively kill these as a class.

DB is in the middle of a small renaissance, and the last thing you want to do is to drive people away who are coming back for the first time in years.

I regularly experience these. Only on my phone. It is quite frustrating.

You're not alone apparently.

VS needs to find a way to keep this from happening.

I got them all the time mainly from this site.. but installed an app to kill them.. it’s called iAdBlocker so far it’s worked..

Edit.. only problem is i have issues seeing some stuff on random sites or get a message to add them to the greenlist before I can see their site.. kind of agricating but much better than these pop ups every 2 clicks.. especially when I so a lot of research and searching on the site so I don’t get the angry D.B.P.D. Search division After me.

Hello there,

We're aware of the pop-ups but a permanent fix is not yet found for this.
It is an issue that the techs are looking into.
As for now, the workaround is to get the full URL and have it sent up to the techs to have it blocked.

That's not really a solution that will work as the vast majority of folks here are not tech savvy. It's easy to get the URL on a PC - not so easy to get one on a smart phone.

I'll admit web programming is not my forte - but is this not a specific class of object that is a "pop up" web page? Seems to me that's the avenue to pursue.

Hello there,

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, blanket blocking the main domain isn't going to work.
Which is why we will need the full URL as these pop-ups are unique.

For users that are having issues copying a link through their phones, I would suggest looking into this link here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...e-text-android

We'll guide the users every step of the way.

I am not talking blocking domains.

I am talking about figuring out the form type. Are pop up forms differentiated from "normal" forms in any way?

So this issue is on our end. There is an exploit with both Apple and Android devices and some site that's allowing the popups in. They sneak in through the regular communication that places regular ads here. We're working on it, and for the short term, if you report the link that it takes you to, I can put a specific block so at least that link shouldn't come back.

This happens because malicious coders buying ad space from Google, Rubicon, and all manner of other providers, and writing ads that trigger those obnoxious redirects when you're on a desktop skin on a mobile device. It's why we have mobile skins. It's also not localized to us, it's a global ad issue, CNN, buzzfeed, msnbc, any site that uses these adsense type ads. We're trying to catch them as we get them

Here's an article on it if you want to read
