Default search function

Seems like the search function is totally not working for me. No matter the word or combination of words, I almost no hits or few. Things I have previously posted myself. Things I KNOW exist. I can go outside dendroboard, and search using google and find the threads...but that is stupid to have to do it that way. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hey there,

I have tried using the search function, and I have no come across the issues you mentioned.
What phrases and words are you searching?
Also, what browser and device are you using when you attempt to search?

Richard.

There is definitely something up. I am also getting limited to no results for items that should easily be returning hundreds of results.

I tried the "Azureus" search like mentioned in the other thread about this (http://www.dendroboard.com/forum/den...-function.html) and only received 5 results.

More advanced searches by username don't return anything... even searching for keywords in my own threads.

I'm using Chrome right now, but the issue is the same on safari on my phone. It may be some sort of permissions issue... I think the problem has been persisting since we had the error last Thursday where no new threads could be created.

Hi,

I have the same problem when I use tapatalk. Strange thing is that the other forums I follow works properly.

which 'search' function are you using? I think we might be using different ones. Richard is probably using the search plugin that's scanning the whole thread.

The same search functions I have always used. Either the 'Search' option at the top or the 'Search this Thread' option.

Also,

It appears as though searching the term "azureus" is now returning a few more results than it was previously, but they are not showing any from before February 17th, 2017.

When I go into the advanced search options, I am showing the "Find Posts From" field is selecting "any date" so my results should not be date-limited.

Okay, some functionality is better, but some still isnt. Advance searches appear to be spotty at best.

I can search "azureus" and get good results.
I can search for posts made by "carola1155" and find a bunch of posts.

However,

If i search for "azureus" in posts made by "carola1155" I don't get any results older than feb 17th.

If I search for "azureus" in the "marketplace" subforum, I don't get any results older than feb 21st.

BUT... if I search for no keyword and simply filter by user name "carola1155" in the "marketplace" subform, I get good results.

Google is your friend.

Enter our website domain - then a space - then a search term.

Results are likely better than you'd get through the search function.

I'm glad it's not just me. I have had trouble searching for every thing I've tried for the last several days. Even things I had searched only two weeks ago were yielding zero results, like, "geosesarma," and, "histrionica," "histrionicus," and others.

Is there some other setting that recently got changed? Something to be adjusted in the user CP?

I cleared everything, and did a hard shutdown twice on my device, then cleared everything again.

So far, I can get the search function to work if I search the entire forum, but when I search specific sections, I get zero results, or very few. I searched the Phyllobates section for, "turface," and got nothing, when I know there are threads mentioning it there. I got one hit for it in Parts & Construction, and I know there are many more threads than that where turface is discussed there. So, it's better than it was, but still not quite back to normal.

Also, this morning, the entire forum was showing up about an inch wide down the left of my screen, even after my repeated cookie & browser history clearings and hard shutdowns. It's normal, now. Just FYI.

To anyone that knows, that means nothing is being done. Going on a month now. I think I will start talking to vendors about their continued support of this forum, and see if they can exert some "influence"

Sorry for the delay guys. Head tech had a baby and he's been out of office a fair bit. Slowing things down on our end and we are dealing with the backlog. I've sent a reminder to them about this just in case it fell through the cracks.

Still not fixed.
Ever since becoming a member on this site, the search function never worked properly.
If I were to hit the search function and try to type anything, it would simply disappear.
I could only ever use the expanded search function and for the last month or so, it has been defunct.

Hey guys,

We apologize for the inconvenience of waiting around while this is being looked into. Our tech team was backlogged for a bit but they are catching up and finding a fix for this issue. Sometimes they will have a fix but then it causes other problems on the site so there is more work involved than one might think, even for the things that seems like a simple fix.

That being said, we will alert you with updates once they are available. Once again, we thank you for your patience and continued support.

Cheers,
Natalie

Unfreaking believable. Months and months later, and this problem is not resolved. You guys obviously just dont care, and continue to lie to us. Higher priorities like buying up every popular forum you can, then neglecting them once you own them.

We do apologize for the delay in getting this fixed. It's not that we don't care and we're not lying when we say this is being looked into. This is an issue that requires a lot more combing through code than normal and our techs are still trying to pin down where the problem is streaming from. They also want to me sure that whatever fix they put in place, doesn't break the site more. There is a lot of trial and error involved and sometimes these things take longer than we'd like them to be resolved.

That said, there is still no update on this but we will alert you guys in this thread once there is one available. I'm bumping this up to the techs as well.

Natalie

I think, at least from my estimation, the only time we get updates is when someone complains that the situation is not fixed. It has been close to 3 months that this problem has been ongoing.

I can say without a shadow of doubt that when the site was run by a person not a company. Any problems that were brought to the admins attention were resolved in a very timely manner.

It feels like there is one person working on this at a very part time basis.

At 11 weeks, if one person was working on this full time (40 hrs/wk)
440 man hours. Kinda seems like a lot of time spent for no progress. But it sounds like there is a team as you use " our techs" when referring to the tech department!

you can understand our frustration i'm sure

Hey there

I do understand your frustration and apologize that you feel you are being ignored. This is not the case. As Natalie mentioned, tech has been looking in to it but there are certain precautions that need to be taken with this and it has the potential to wipe the entire site database. There is no update at this time, unfortunately.

You know what? I've rarely, if ever, used the search function on this site. This may be anathema - and get me in trouble - but whatever.

Google.com is your friend.

You want to search DB in particular, on Google?

Type in Dendroboard.com and your search term. Make sure you have a space between the URL for DB and the search term(s).

This will return DB specific hits for your search. So if I'm search the term "Mods" (now why would I do that?) - this is what I'd type in (don't use the quotes): "dendroboard.com mods"

This works really well. I'm sure there are a few functions that we're supposed to have, that aren't working - but this suffices for the most part.

Dane, yes, this works as a "work around". But the search results populated in a browser are much more difficult to sort through than the search results that pop up within dendroboard. If it was a matter of a few weeks time waiting, no problem. But this has gone on for months now. I have worked in the tech field. Their explanations and excuses fall on deaf ears. The entirety of dendroboard I'm sure, is backed up in duplicate. This is not an overly complicated fix. There is just no effort being put into the fix or repair of this problem. They placate us with "ticket #'s" and "being pushed to the tech team" but literally nothing has been done.
