Default Are there still classifieds for frogs and plants on Dendroboard?

I hadn't logged on for months, and the classifieds are not on the site that I could find. Did they go away?

Aaaaaah now I see what going on... it's completely understandable. It's kind of the same way on chameleon forums ...you can still see the classified and purchase but cannot post until you have a certain amount of posts or have been a member for a certain time... just kinda sucks on here for the people that aren't trying to scam people or just make a quick buck...

While understand not being able to post and reply to classifieds until I have at least 25 posts and the time limitation, what I still don't see an answer to though is why can I no longer even see the classifieds. I used to able to at least browse them even though I don't have 25 posts yet. While I intended to wait until I met those requirements to even buy anything from here, I still liked to browse them just to see the frogs that people are working with and breeding.

So to summarize here, my question is this: did something change to where you can now not even see the classifieds until you have met the requirements to post there?

Because scammers were creating profiles for the express purpose of scamming folks who had posted Want Ads.

We made the decision to limit even seeing this area until you are a part of the community. People will know you at that point.

It was worked fairly well - we've had fewer issues since instituting this.

I understand the reasons for closing the thread to prevent spammers - is there a way to appeal to open this to members on an individual basis who have been on the site for longer? I am a long-time lurker and rare poster but have bought many frogs/supplies from people and vendors using the classified section. It's frustrating to not even be able to view the forum until I have 25 posts

Same as above. I read through a lot of posts when I first got my frogs, but my online presence matches my real world presence in that I don't talk much. I've never wanted to sell anything, but I've bought supplies and feeders from other members.

I would not expect this to change.

The idea is to make yourself a known quantity.

If we change it so you need not post - scammers will just create a profile today and leave it set until such time that they CAN use it for their purposes.

The idea is for people to contribute - get to know each other a little bit - and therefore folks have a better idea of knowing who they are talking with (in a transaction or otherwise).

I understand the reasoning behind the requirements for access to the Classifieds section. My question is why can I access the classifieds for several weeks then all of a sudden I no longer have access for several weeks? I've been able to make some purchases when I had access but missed out on other purchases because I suddenly lost access to that thread.

I have experienced the same thing. When I first joined I did not know there was a Marketplace, then, after a bunch of posts I saw it, then it went away recently (first there was a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is). I'm thinking the mods or admins went through and re-set the permissions recently, or did an update. Vbulletin has a complex and granular permission structure, it can cause collisions. I know of at least one on this board right now. So it is possible that someone who had the permission to see the Ads, no longer has it. I, for one, am willing to be patient, because I know how hard it is to find minor glitches in a .php website. The good done by excluding easy access outweighs the dangers of just opening the floodgates.
I can also suggest: the Frogroom Facebook group has cross posts for many of the Frog classifieds found here on Dendroboards. Join that group and you can still window shop (or buy) the many wonderful Anurian tidbits that are available here.

Because the policy changed due to *current* scammer activity.

With you two I see the need for two more posts, and seven more posts.

Surely you have something good and constructive to add to a thread? Not like you need much to get this back.
