Default Add auction area to classifieds?

Has this ever been tried? Could be worth debating.

Ok, I'll jump in with an opinion on the debate. I like that DendroBoard does NOT allow auctions. Let me explain why. DendroBoard is our friendly place to play. I like fixed prices here.
I view auctions, as the seller trying to get every last penny he can, from the item he is selling. That doesn't strike me as "friendly". Granted, that is simply my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I have been a seller on eBay for years (it's not too hard to figure out my seller name, haha), so obviously I love a good auction, too. However, when I am selling on eBay, it is with the intention of maximizing the final price tag. While I always deliver exactly what I'm auctioning, and make sure every customer is satisfied, and fully happy with his purchase, I just don't view it as "purchaser-friendly", as a fixed price offering.

I can see the obvious replies to this:

1) What about the chance to grab a great deal on auctions? That is certainly true enough. I've scored some great eBay deals over the years, but I've also paid way too much, to get something rare.

2) I can simply avoid the auction section, right? But I would still prefer to see auctions left to eBay or other sites.

I agree with Doug. Besides that I would hate to find a frog I have been waiting on just to lose the chance at buying it because I don't have the ability to watch the auction all day and get outbid at the last minute.

I hadn't even considered frogs being auctioned. I was only thinking of rare plants, plant packages, particularly interesting pieces of wood, etc.
Auctioning frogs...hmm...Nope, Don't like it.

I just thought it would help set fair market value at the gain/loss of the seller and/or buyer. There are asking prices and then there are selling prices. What is the frog actually worth at that given time.

Has it ever been tried?

There was a site a few years ago that was going to auction frogs, it stirred a lot of controversy.... or at least a few days worth and I am pretty sure it shut down before an auction ever happened. It was a pretty negative tone overall towards the idea.

It's been brought up before - and shot down before.

Pretty much a yearly occurrence.
