Default Why have two classified sections?

Or more specifically why have them if vendors post their ads in both? Seems to me vendors should use the vendor forums and not the regular one. Otherwise why have two? No point in reading the vendor ads if they are all in the regular classified.

Sorry...not to stir things up but this never made sense to me.

Hi Chris,

I asked that very same question before. The explanation is that sponsors have some privileges, including the ability to double post.

Also, not everyone reads the forum the same way. Some people like clicking on individual subforums, others prefer to only read the new posts, etc.

By posting in both Sponsor and regular classifieds, sponsors are doubling the likelihood of someone seeing their ad.

I hope this helps and makes sense.

Selfishly as a reader it just makes me go to different places. I would rather see it in a single forum and give some sort of highlighting to vendor posts.

Anyhow...no biggie just strikes me as inefficient I am pretty sure anyone looking to purchase frogs goes to both forums.

My experience is I simply don't go to the vendor one which is why I think it is redundant and counter productive for the vendors. I think the vendors know this which is why the post in both sections.

I was wondering the same thing. The double posting makes me skip over the post altogether...

I've pondered the double posting that some vendors do from time to time. In some cases I would be against it, but considering how much sponsors have to pay for the privilege (it ain't chicken feed anymore since Verticalscope came to town), I can understand wanting to get the biggest conversion for the money spent. Additionally there are SO many amateur hobbyists trying to make a buck on frogs and supplies now, that businesses have to be a little overbearing just to get noticed.

My opinion.

It's pretty simple.Sponsors pay a premium to get their ads out there. You may only read the regular classifieds and not the sponsors section where as new members may wisely check out the sponsor classifieds.Bottom line is that if you don't want to read their section, then you don't have to.They pay for the privilege to do so and as Dane said it's not cheap,so they are entitled to get the most bang for the buck.

I guess the question is DO they get additional bang for the buck?

If everyone reads everything, or people skip the vendor section knowing it will also be in the other classified then you are getting nothing for the extra spend. I used to be a sponsor here and do a lot of online marketing in my day job. There are tons of analytics out there to let you see who is coming to your site and/or clicking your links from where.

Anyhow...I don't see any reason to limit anything but I also don't feel that I saw any appreciable value in the extra forum when I was running Dartfrog Depot.

In any case, I would still consider posting essentially the same ad TWICE in both sections within one week to be excessive.
