Default True/Blue Sips

Got lucky on Monday and saw an ad on Kingsnake for some "Blue Sips". I suspected they were true sips. After quickly calling a couple people with true sips we determined they were very likely true sips and worth getting. According to the importer, 10 specimens (5 sexed pairs) came in. Luckily we know all who purchased them and all of us are eager to set up breeding program to pair up unrelated F1 individuals. These are truly spectacular frogs.

Don't be surprised if those animals start laying soon - Most of those Females were quite plump before they were sent.......

Wow it's been years, surprising this morph was collected, I understand it comes from an area that is very challenging to get to and get back from with healthy animals. Good luck with them, they sure look like they are in perfect condiditon and this is a frog that can definitely use some new genetics.

I make sure that the rarer types or wild caught animals go to good Frog keepers.......While I may operate a Business, I'm a Hobbiest first and foremost.....

I did it with all the Atelopus I've recieved, and the Yellow/Green Sips that came in eariler this year......

I wouldn't say the current ones here were bottlenecked but without anyone else attaining breeding success something was wrong. I am sure these new imports will really invigorate the line, hopefully we will see some real good production out of multiple pairs.

That is the hope. The original ones are all from a single pair. I am waiting to see if we can get a locality for these and then I could contact NAIB or Sean to see if what the locality is of the old line. If they are the same forest island, then I don't see a problem mixing them.

What do you think Julio, you have both, same locale? I would be hard pressed to imagine that there is a True Sip population on each Tepui is it?

some of the imports look identical to the old line even hard to tell apart if they were to be side by side.

If I remember correctly, the single pair that was collected was found serendipitously in an open area on the hike out from the azureus habitat. It was supposedly dry (I always assumed seasonally) and the pair was found together under some rocks or debris. I wasn't there, so my memory and maybe my interpretation of what I was told should be double-checked . I don't think the trouble with breeding these was bottle-necking, but rather that the F1 generation did not produce a good ratio of both sexes.

Richard and I have 5 juveniles of the original import. Comparing the 8 wc individuals that came to Julio, Richard and I with the cb ones they are identical even in their variation. Some have faint yellow on the sides others don't and look almost Lorenzo like. From my understanding they aren't tepuis but rather forest patches with vast savannah between them. I spoke to Brice Noonan about it at length. He said you could stand in the patch that true sips are in and see the forest across the savannah where azureus is. Got to get there someday!

I actually have photographic proof as to why they are so difficult to breed.
They don't even like to kiss!

Some horrible pics while they settle in. They started courting within hours, until I distracted them with food :P The animals arrived in fantastic health, and were happily eating fruit flies less than an hour after being unpacked.

I've already posted a few of these photos in another thread, but I thought it might have some value to post them again here. These are all F1 animals from that original pair collected by NAIB. I remember seeing the original pair and if my memory is correct, the female had the nice yellow points while the male just had a small amount of pale yellow.
I can certainly see the resemblance to the frogs pictured in this thread.

I wish all of you much luck in getting them to breed.
