I would be concerned that the dish might wick moisture from the eggs especially if your talking about terra cotta.

I was thinking that as well just can't find any dishes that would work for it right now

anything non-porous should work. Lid from a plastic food container?

I like using plastic petri dishes. They are reasonable, clear, and easy to swap out with another when you collect the eggs.I believe some of the sponsors including Josh's frogs sells them.

I know this sounds wierd but when i dont have enough petri dishes I use pringles can tops. They dont hold as much water to keep eggs moist but if you keep an eye on them they work.

That's not weird ,I've successfully used the top of a tetley tea can before I stocked up on petri dishes. The can is round and holds about 25 round tea bags.Usually specialty teas like chai and such. The lid has at least a 1/4 inch lip that works well but they are black so you have to keep an eye on them.My leucs seem to like them and have breed readily inside them.I still have one in their tank as well as a petri dish.
