Default Sexing Solarte???

I have 4 solarte (Nancy) that I am guessing are about 8 months old. I have never seen any one of them calling. I recorded a calling/courting male solarte off the web and have been playing it back during daylight hours the past 3 days but have not seen one of my solarte call back. The 4 I have do seem MUCH more active while the recorded male is played. Is this a sign that I probably have 4 females?

Your best bet would be to stop/cut your misting down for a couple weeks and let the tank dry out a little. When the wait is over start misting three to four times a day, and if there is a male in there he will let you know. Unfortunately the only way to sex pumilio are eggs and calling. Good luck!

Yeah, my male is just as round as the female is. The only way I can tell them apart is by the color. My male is a bit lighter than the female.

Adult males can often be sexed by having a darker patch under thier throats. Adult female throats will be as bright as the rest of their undersides.

Right, for Solarte, this works very well. But it doesn't work as well for all pumilio morphs. Basically, anything with a blue belly, this won't work.

The dark patch thing only happens after calling. The problem is there is no calling , so this method will not help in sexing. Usually a male will make his presence known by eight months , even in 'not the most opportune' conditions. There may be a good chance you have all females. The only time I have been fooled by not hearing a male call, and thus thinking it was a female, was when there was another dominant male in the viv. The subordinate male refused to call around the dominant male.
