Support Systems

Posted 12-17-2008 at 02:34 AM by Scott

Hi All Y'all (shades of a Southern Friend of mine),

Having just survived an 84 hour power outage without alternative energy or heat sources - I have to tell you how incredibly important it is to have a support system in place.

I managed to "avoid" moving my frogs the first two nights with a combination of methods: 1) First Night I used the heaters that we use for shipping, 40 hour heaters. I placed 2 of them in mason jars, put window screen over the top, and placed them in the tanks 2) Second night - I borrowed a friend's kerosene heater to keep the frog room from freezing. It wasn't warm, but it wasn't cold. I managed to maintain 58/59 degree temps.

The next day I realized I was out of options and thankfully we in New England have an incredibly supportive group of froggers (otherwise know as the New England Frog Group). My friend Chris stepped up and is hosting my tanks for me for a few days (Thank You CHRIS!).

So... plan for the worst. I had already decided on getting a generator, but I was waiting until I was fully employed again (more on that one later ... ). I'm still going to wait (no sense in having a good generator if you do not have a house ), but thankfully I was able to survive an 84 hour power outage with materials on hand and good friends.

Support systems are a must in our hobby.
