Default Mister question

I have been doing hours and hours of reading and research. I seen a picture of someones vivarium and they had used a humidifier for there misting system.

Is it safe to do this? I have a humidifier and if I can use it instead of purchasing something (its best to save money where you can, so you can buy the important things)

I would think that it would add warm humidity to the tank......

if its for one tank only then its fine, but if you are looking to hook that up to several tanks, then it won't work.

It will work for a single tank, but I wouldn't use one. If you get a glass top on a well established vivarium you can just get a hand mister and mist once as little as every other day. This is the method I use for all of my frogs.

I'm currently using a hand mister and I had a question about it. I have a layer of terrarium moss over my substrate, and I was wondering if if the mister can get water past the moss and into the substrate. Moss seems to absorb sooo much water. I don't have my plants in yet, but I want to make sure I can get enough water to them. I guess I could always clear away the moss from the base of the plants. Would that work?

Or could I just pour a bottle of water evenly around the viv. I would think the volume of water would reach the substrate.

Usually if you have water under a false bottom or drainage layer it will be humid enough to saturate your substrate.

Don't remove your moss, there's no need. make sur eyou've got a false bottom or some LECA and then pour some water in it. That should allow roots to extend into your drainage layer and get water there. They'll also be watered via the sprays.

You say that you wouldn't use one? Why? Is there a danger?
My tank is a 72 gallon bow front, with a glass top. I would only use it for this tank.

No danger as far as I know. But if you're planning on having multiple vivariums (and trust me, whether you know it or not you're planning on having multiple vivariums) then it won't do you any good for the others. For me I like the opportunity to regulate how much water is going into my viv. If I put a mister on a timer I wouldn't be able to do that. The entire idea sounds far from aesthetically pleasing and it seems like it would be a bit of a space-waster. Besides, if you've just got the one viv it won't take you much time to hand-mist once a day-every other day. But those are just my thoughts. If you're committed to the idea then I say go for it.

I'm using a kaz humidifier for mine. I like it better than hand misting since it evenly covers the entire viv, you can start it just by turning a knob, and it just looks cool You would be able to rig it up for multiple vivs I believe. I'm about to try and split mine from one into three, so I'll keep you updated.

Thats what I was hoping, to cover the entire viv more evenly.
How big is your tank? Do you mabey have pics or a diagram of how you connected it to your tank?

Thank you
