I'm using a 1" bulkhead for a 115gl tank. It will contain a waterfall, stream, and pond, so water will constantly be flowing through it. I def think the 1/2" is fine for a 15gl cube. There are several people who have rack setups here so they could tell you what to use better than me though.

The size bulkhead is determined by the amount of water you want to flow through it. It depends on the amount of water you are pumping into the tank. For a 15 gal an inch is good. If the flow is too much you can make a stand pipe for it so a constant water level is acheived. However if you use too small a bulkhead, you can't make it drain any faster. Hope that makes sense.
As far as Leucs calling, that's the awesome part of having them. Their call is so nice to listen to. I am contemplating moving some of mine to my bedroom for that reason.

thanks for the replies i'll prob end up going with the 1/2'' seeing i only plan on having a drip system on the back wall along with a small pond in the front, as far as the leucs i've also been told that at night they're usually quiet so i'm not so worried about their calling anymore.
