Default Film Canister

Does it matter if you use a black film canister or a clear film canister for Ranitomeya?

Different ones seem to prefer different colors. Some of mine will lay in black, others will deposit in white :-) There is also sometimes a different preference for orientation, too. Some like vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. There are clues to this in the stickies for the different species on this board.

Do you put any water in your film canisters for Ranitomeya? If you do, how much water?

If we are talking for a laying site, I put a little bit of water in the bottom when I manually mist. Just to kind of keep it wet in there. If it's a deposition site, I will keep about half of the canister full.

Depending on what species you are taking about.

For example imitators I keep them horizontal with no water but for variabilis I keep them tilted at 45 degrees filled with water.

As already mentioned there is a thread somewhere that give you the general preference of a breed of frog.

I have R. Variabilis Borja Ridge and they lay in white canister, tilted around 45 degree angle with 1/3 or 1/2 of water.

These breed of frogs tend to lay their eggs just under the waterline so you definitely need to put around half of the water for them to stick their butt and lay their eggs. And then the male comes and inseminate the eggs.
